How to Use the Old iPhone

OK, im sure this question has been asked before but i cant find the answer anywhere so here it goes again. I have an old Iphone how can i use it as an Ipod? Everytime I hook it up I keep getting the " must be hooked up to Itunes symbols" I could really use the help. Thanks again

Hate to point out the obvious... But have you tried hooking it up to itunes? 😕

I use my old 3GS as a 32GB iPod now. Just put it in airplane mode and the battery lasts forever. Every once in a while I sync it through iTunes.

I use iPhone 3g as a test device cause I'm a developer, It's a little slowly, but works.
