How to watch TV on iPad

Is there a way to stream my TV to my iPad?

Elgato has a device and then if you have a cable subscription, then you can watch some shows.

Many cable/satellite services have their own apps.

My favorite add on box would be Slingbox. I also have an Eyetv, which is better for recording, but it has always had issues on my 2010 Mac Mini.
