Generally I don't like Dave Barry, but I chuckled at the "I know Latin" part..

How to "win" arguments in forums...

Never, ever, ever, ever, EVER admit that you're wrong.

From what I've seen, nearly everyone's on to this tactic.

That's not winning, that's called being stubborn and dishonest.

best way to win arguments is simply to really think you are right. certain people assume they are right all the time.

if you dont believe in what you are arguing, it will show, and cracks will form in your argument.

I find Banning With Extreme Prejudice typically wins arguments for me on MacRumors. :)

And don't forget to quote Wikipedia with every point you make....but only after you have applied some edits to the wiki page to strengthen your argument.

Even though making up figures to try and prove your very misguided, drunken point, is the wrong thing to do, this is true.

My friend does it very often. It has reached a point where I just agree no matter what to avoid arguing with a drunk. I will say this. It provides some good laughs when he talks about politics or terrorism.

That's not an argument, that's just contradiction.

Being louder than the other person makes you seem like an idiot, but gets your point across better.

Your syllogism is off. It is, indeedy, a contradiction and not an "argument".

Let me put it this way, you are wrong about it. In terms of what is a contradiction and what is an argument so-to-speak, your logic is off a bit as it were. However, I am not calling you an idiot, per se, since I am writing qua bull-shi**er. Vis-a-vis this thread, is hilarious. :D
