Seriously, what complexity?

How are EarPods complex? AirPods aren't complex either...the opposite actually.

Okay, I wrote EarPods instead of AirPods. You got me there.

If you're okay with dealing with recharging, updating firmware, learning force sensor gestures, troubleshooting issues etc. just to hear music or whatever, then go for it. It's also legitimate for some people to think that it's reached a point of absurdity.

I don't have any of those issues. And recharging is just as simple as it was with every other AirPods. I put them in my ears and press play on whatever music app I'm using at the moment.

I don’t actively update firmware, so that’s out...if it does update, it updates automatically. Not complicated.

Recharging? What is absurd or difficult about it? The fact it’s another step?

Learning gestures? I mean, I have no words if that is complex or too much to handle. There are no gestures on EarPods, so is that a positive? You don’t have to use them on AirPods. It’s another option. If you don’t want to learn simple gestures, control your music from the device like you do with wired headphones.

No wires, noise cancellation, complete portability, on device controls, etc are all new benefits that more than outweigh the dumb headphones that just play music.

Literally the only drawback is you have to recharge them, but the case holds so much charge it’s like a once per week task, if that.

Complexity isn’t the argument. This isn‘t complex or absurd. You get several tangible benefits in a simple to use package And is why wearables are growing like crazy. It’s better.

I’m really picky when it comes to headphones. I bought some Sony’s wf 1000xm3 today. I’ve been putting off wireless ones for ages due to poor audio quality. I’m blown away by the sound quality. Ill admit I havent tried the apple pro ones but everything else I’ve tried don’t come anywhere near the Sony.

I really don't understand the difficulties people are having. The experience is easy and seamless. o_O

Exactly, it's yet another step. You know, like you mentioned tangled wires as another "step" with traditional headphones.

I think this discussion has gone far enough. No one is trying to talk you out of using AirPods. I think you've made your point and it's obvious that you like these things, so all power to you (as long as it doesn't run out of power, that is ;)).

Untangling wires is a variable and far different than throwing your AirPods case on a charging pad.

And I see you ignoring everything else.

But OK dude.

It seems I’m picky too, as I'm annoyed by the hiss on the AirPods Pro. Tell me, do you Sonys hiss at all when noise cancelling is turned on? I’m still toying with getting a refund on my APPs...

Come on people, aren't things getting a bit out of hand when earphones have such complexity? Oh for the good old days when all you had to do to hear music was plug earphones into a jack.

One day kids who need to plug in headphones (if that still exists) will want the simplicity of wireless.

No I don’t notice that at all with the sonys.

So... it appears I have some sort of mongo left ear - the left AirPod pro keep falling out under normal use (not exercising) regularly, using all 3 sizes. (No issues with original AirPods). I’ve found some eBay options for third party memory foam tips. Just seeing if any of you guys have found and recommend any options.

I have to agree it's a bit scary how complicated things like this have become.
And recalling Steve's view about how things should just work and be made so they don't need instructions as they just naturally work the way you'd expect it's a bit worrying.
This is where I do hope in X or XX years time AI Assistants will remove the need for the average consumer knowing all this.
You will just be able to talk to these devices, ask questions, or it could be pro-active if it thinks there is a problem coming up.
Everyone should not need to learn/remember all this stuff, esp for just earphones.
Let's hope those in the design labs who understand, live and breath this stuff every day, and to them it's normal and obvious. Actually stop and understand they should be making future items where things just work and don't need complex instructions or remembering things to fully enjoy a product
Ignorance of your device’s functions should NOT be encouraged... even if they do replace certain processes with AI or automation, you should at least have a surface level understanding of how something works so that you’re not completely helpless when it doesn’t work properly. Tech will always fail. There’s no such thing as a “perfect” system. Tech is getting more and more complex, and unfortunately, you can only simplify things so much for the layman. That was the one thing I would try to get across to my older boomer aged customers when I worked for an authorized service provider. They always left my store knowing something they didn’t before, which made less trips for them to get help. (Not great for business, of course, but I’m the guy that taught people to fish or at least ways to teach themselves to fish)
