Not at all in my opinion. While shopping for a new Macbook, I legitimately felt lost on the 17" screen. I felt like I had no idea where to look on the screen. It's just too big for me. I will probably never go bigger than a 15" screen on a laptop.

How well is the 17" MBP as a portable laptop?

Not at all in my opinion. While shopping for a new Macbook, I legitimately felt lost on the 17" screen. I felt like I had no idea where to look on the screen. It's just too big for me. I will probably never go bigger than a 15" screen on a laptop.
It's quite portable but obviously more noticeable a burden than an ultra portable. I take my 17" to work every day as well as other places. I have a backpack, which makes all the difference - by keeping the weight centered on my back I don't even notice it's there. With a shoulder or messenger bag having that weight hanging off of one side would get old _really_ fast.
