Probably just the algorithm but … I’m seeing a lot of Air reviews on YouTube and they’re nearly all positive.

Flossy has a negative one, which is highly amusing, yet also totally correct lol.

Just traded in my launch day 12 mini for the Air last night and love it. Apple knows their users better than we do. They may be advertising for the pro now because it sells more once it is released and then plan to market later in the cycle for the Air. Just a guess, time will tell.
Also, hoping history doesn't repeat itself and the Air is cancelled after two years.

Just out of curiosity, why a 6.5” Air after a 5.4” mini and “losing” one camera and a speaker? Would not a regular 17 be a better fit for you?

Was thinking the same. It’s so weird a brand new device not being advertised. Haven’t seen a single ad for the air anywhere.

Like others say it was the same for the mini. I guess the profit margins are better in the pro hence why that gets all the ad budget?

The Air will end up like the mini. That doesn’t bother me. I think people will flock to the fold, along with continuing to buy the Pro series. Once tech catches up at Apple, and Apple can offer stereo speakers and plenty of cameras at this thinness level while keeping fat margins, a phone this thin will sell.
I like the way you’ve constructed your sentence : “…thinness level while keeping fat margins…..”

Very aptly put.

So you went from a device with very weak battery life to one that is comparable but lost one camera and speaker but gained a larger screen, higher refresh rate and thinness. I don’t think you even know what you want but permitting Apple to entice you with RDF. I was a iPhone 13 mini owner and it was a great phone minus battery life, it was usable with one hand and that cannot be said for the iPhone Air for most normal hand sized people.

Granted the mini didn’t have ProMotion but it wasn’t missed. iPhone 12 mini was one of the worst phones produced by Apple.

Reality is the iPhone Air is a proof-of-concept for the fold. Double the Air and you get a fold with similar battery life as the Pro Max. Even the price point is a test bed for what the market is willing to pay for a fold.

SIM slot has negligible impact on sales. If the buyer already accepted the compromised camera and battery life of the Air, that same buyer isn't likely to be a global traveler or power user.

Chinese consumers live a fully digital life, meaning cashless transactions and everything from report cards to parking tickets are issued on the phone. Battery life is paramount. That's why even $159 phones from Huawei use SiC batteries with 40W charging. SIM or no SIM, the Air wasn't going to do well.
You can get e-sims for travel you know? easiest way.

When people actually pick up and feel the Air, it will sell in a heartbeat.

Most regular people are not Pro users so they will absolutely love the new form factor.

Airs will sell by themselves without any fanfare, advertising or Apple marketing.
Most regular people may not be pro users, but most users can notice the difference between having one camera instead of two or three and also being asked to pay 25% more for that single camera.

So the question becomes whether or not "when people actually pick up and feel the Air" becomes worth paying $200 more for less cameras. I think that the elegant form of the Air justifies its existence, just not for me.

Most travel eSIM don’t provide a local number and you pay a lot more.
In most parts of the world, travellers use roaming, i.e. they keep their usual SIM and phone number.

I think it’s a stretch to suggest that the embedded SIM is hurting Air sales. No-one cares about this stuff. The Air’s problem lies elsewhere.

I didn’t say it would hurt sales. Read my post again.

I know exactly what I want and it is the Air. in 5 years I never once used the ultra wide lens on my Mini so I did not lose a camera. Personally I couldn't give two F*&^s about one handed use. But if it makes you feel better to talk s*&t about my phone feel free to yammer on a nd I'll go about using my new phone and LOVING it.

Because the Air is for enthusiasts willing to spend $999 to get a new iPhone whose defining quality is that it’s extremely thin and light. They have to not care about battery life or cameras. Those people will seek out the Air by themselves.

Regular consumers care about camera shortcomings and battery life. They will enter the store, pick up the Air, comment on the thinness and then buy the base 17 or 17 Pro/Max.

Ads can't convince people to disregard the camera or battery.
I literally cannot get past the cameras they could not put the dual cameras of base 17? Like I was willing to look past the battery but not having dual cameras I wanted the ability to record spacial video to have it for future use on a Vision Pro or something. I could past the battery since I usually have the phone on the mag safe stand on my desk. I always have it charging while I drive. That camera really let me down I see the base as the go to phone if you don’t want a pro.

thanks for posting. i have the Air as well.
you went from the iPhone Mini to the Air.
do you prefer the Air because is it a large screen that is still very holdable and relatively light weight ?
how are you dealing with the width ?
thanks.

Tell flossy lol

@arc of the universe I love the larger screen and the lighter weight. 12 gigs of ram was important to me as well as the writing is on the wall that future versions of iOS will probably need it. The width is no issue for me at all and it fits in my pockets as easy as the mini ever did.

All of the current phones are great and each is great for a different kind of user. I'm a photographer with more cameras, lenses and lights than 99% of iPhone users so the pro (which is a great phone) does not interest me.

Not everyone buys an iPhone for camera or lenses.

I bought my Air to make / take calls, text and FaceTime.
Some very light banking apps, health monitoring w/ UW3 and Amazon ordering.

If I want a true reproduction image or action video, I'd pull out my DSLR and use the Pro and prime lenses.

And even worse, both Mini releases were during some portion of the pandemic times, where access to stores was limited or unavailable.

Also when folks are mostly staying at home, the portability and pocketability factor isn’t all that useful.

At least the SE had TouchID going for it in a time of face masks.

Just one of many articles about the disappointing sales figures....I am not an air fan (cost vs. features for me personally), as I traded in my brick 16pro for the 17 base. That said I am really surprised sales are not great....

What weird AI written weirdness is that site? The picture has an iPhone with a screen coming out the top off the back?
