How will instant messaging work with 4.0 multitasking?

    It's unclear to me if 4.0 can run IM in the background.

    Yes. Once the app devs make it work with the system calls that apple provide for such purposes.

    No they will still need to use push notification. However at least developers will be give the opportunity to save the state of their app before it get unloaded from memory.

    That's not how it will work, IM applications will still use push notifications. VOIP is something completely different.

    yep, i remember hereing social networking clients will still be using push, I guess thats the case with IM?

    Personally I feel the likes of IM should be able to run via multitasking on not just push notifications

    Hmm I'm not too fond of the Push sollution in my iPhone.

    Maybe iChat will come to the iPhone os with some kind of backgrounding but iChat doesn't support Msn
