How will iOS 5 run on iPhone 4?

I remember very well what iOS 4 did to my iPhone 3G. The 3G became borderline unusable with its terrible lag and constant freezing of various apps (with Maps being the worst) which forced me to upgrade to the iPhone 4 before my 2 year contract was up. Now that iOS 5 is coming out, I hope the iPhone 4 is better equipped to run it. If iOS 5 ends up slowing down my iPhone 4, I will not be a happy camper.

So for people who have played with iOS 5 on their iPhone 4, how does it run compared to iOS 4.X? Do you see any lag or slow downs of particular apps like maps?

Nope. You can't go back once you upgrade. There is a way be saving the ipsw files or something, but I am not familiar with the process.

Same here .... iOS5 GM is smooth on iP4. Been using for about about a week and no signs of lag whatsoever. No signs of any decreased battery life either.

One thing I've noticed is syncing via usb seems much faster than before.

Ah yes, I remember the lovely issues with the 3G and the last major OS upgrade. But I've been running the iOS 5 GM since last week with absolutely no issue on my iPhone 4. Smooth like butter. 🙂

iOS 5 seems to be made for iPhone 4.

I think thats how they were able to add even more to the 4s.

As far as the core OS is concerned, the most important spec is RAM and the iPhone 4 has the same RAM as the 4s.
