How would this work out?

If I was to buy a Mac from a student who has paid for Applecare with his student discount (£50) can he transfer that Applecare to me?

AppleCare follows a computer, not a person The apple care does not need to be transferred if it is already enrolled on a computer.

I'm just worried that it won't be valid because the seller got a discount and I'm not a student.

They wont mark a service agreement as invalid because it was sold to someone else. The original owner paid for the service, that service will last for 3 years from the Date of Purchase.

IIRC student purchases are not to be resold until 12 mo after purchase.
