Based off
Engadget, how would you change the MacBook Pro?
I would add/change:
- Faster Processor, 2.8 GHz and 3.0 GHz. There's no difference between the current MacBook (higher end) and MacBook Pro's (base model).
- HD Resolution for the 15"
- HDMI port instead of the DVI
- 3 USB Ports on the 15" Model
- Blu-ray Read/Write Drive
- Better Battery. Pushed to 6/7 hours would be extremely nice.
- Little Bit Better Graphics Card.
I think the processor is fine at the points they keep bumping it. I'm on an *uber-slow* 2.16Ghz (SARCASM), and the only time I usually put it to the max is when using HandBrake. It blows away the 1.5Ghz G4 Mac Mini I had.
All MacBooks and MacBook Pros can do HD resolution. 720p is technically 1280x720. So they are HD. If you're talking 1080p resolution, got a bit to go (my 20" monitor doesn't even do that).
I'm all for HDMI, but some people mention the inability to use multiple monitors. I would personally trade that off since I have NEVER used more than one monitor at a time.
There is no such thing as too many USB ports. I wish they had 3 or 4. I wouldn't totally mind one on the front for easy access for a flash drive (but with a cover similar to the MBA).
Blu-ray is a must. I hope they offer Blu-ray Combo drives and Blu-ray Superdrives. A single BD-R disc costs $20. I hardly use DVD-Rs, so I don't want to pay a few hundred extra for a re-writable BD drive.
Battery life? Seems good to me right now. Hard to realistically press for faster CPUs and better battery life. Harry Potter doesn't work for Apple.
I'm on a year-old graphics card and couldn't tell you the difference. The newer ones have double the VRAM *standard*. Apple isn't going to update these things every time ATI sneezes out a new transistor on a graphics card.
You touched on everything I could think of aside from 1) a magnetic latch, and 2) KEEP THE MATTE SCREEN OPTION. I'm quite mad at Apple for only releasing iMacs in glossy.
