Based off Engadget, how would you change the MacBook Pro?

I would add/change:
  • Faster Processor, 2.8 GHz and 3.0 GHz. There's no difference between the current MacBook (higher end) and MacBook Pro's (base model).
  • HD Resolution for the 15"
  • HDMI port instead of the DVI
  • 3 USB Ports on the 15" Model
  • Blu-ray Read/Write Drive
  • Better Battery. Pushed to 6/7 hours would be extremely nice.
  • Little Bit Better Graphics Card.

I would have liked to see (already ordered my Penryn MBP):
  • Blu-Ray
  • Magnetic Latch(like MB)
  • Better screen resolution
  • More USB ports (Three minimum)
  • slimmer case design
Keep the keyboard.
I like everything else the way it is!:D

I would just want:
More USB ports
Faster processors atleast 2.8 or 3.0
Better battery
slimmer case(not too important)

I would keep the same Iconic design
Magnetic Latch
3 USB Ports
Blu-ray Read/Write Drive
Easier HD Replacement
HD display for the 15"
Upgradable CPU & GPU :p (wont happen for a long time)

What would I change:
Free upgrade from PowerBook G4.
:D

Seriously:
Nothing
I knew that this wouldn't bring much change. I'm quite happy with the changes. In fact, it bought more changes that I anticipated.

The significant changes will come by WWDC... if you can wait that long, buy then. If you can't, buy now.

Don't play the waiting game ( for too long ).

Changes I want. (realistic ones :p )

Better Processor (2.8 - 3.0)
Newer Graphics card (9XXX series)
Better Battery life
User-friendly HDD replacement
Magnetic Latch

that's about it really.

This change is more unlikely but, It would be really nice to have

Anodized Black aluminum laptop .

I would just change the shipping date to 2 days ago :)

2x :)

but Id like to see:
- a case redesign, and offer it in different shades of aluminum (regular/gunmetal/?)
- its slim enough, Id rather have it be more powerful than compromise it due to lack of room
- 15" getting HD screen + improved GPU + HDMI (ffs should have been there with Penryn already)
- SSD BTO but w/o Apple's pricing on it a la RAM :) More or less market price.
- blu ray recorder
- 3.0GHZ + CPUs
- support up to 8GBs of RAM

I think the processor is fine at the points they keep bumping it. I'm on an *uber-slow* 2.16Ghz (SARCASM), and the only time I usually put it to the max is when using HandBrake. It blows away the 1.5Ghz G4 Mac Mini I had.

All MacBooks and MacBook Pros can do HD resolution. 720p is technically 1280x720. So they are HD. If you're talking 1080p resolution, got a bit to go (my 20" monitor doesn't even do that).

I'm all for HDMI, but some people mention the inability to use multiple monitors. I would personally trade that off since I have NEVER used more than one monitor at a time.

There is no such thing as too many USB ports. I wish they had 3 or 4. I wouldn't totally mind one on the front for easy access for a flash drive (but with a cover similar to the MBA).

Blu-ray is a must. I hope they offer Blu-ray Combo drives and Blu-ray Superdrives. A single BD-R disc costs $20. I hardly use DVD-Rs, so I don't want to pay a few hundred extra for a re-writable BD drive.

Battery life? Seems good to me right now. Hard to realistically press for faster CPUs and better battery life. Harry Potter doesn't work for Apple.

I'm on a year-old graphics card and couldn't tell you the difference. The newer ones have double the VRAM *standard*. Apple isn't going to update these things every time ATI sneezes out a new transistor on a graphics card.

You touched on everything I could think of aside from 1) a magnetic latch, and 2) KEEP THE MATTE SCREEN OPTION. I'm quite mad at Apple for only releasing iMacs in glossy.

I'd like to see the MBA keyboard on the MBP and have them somehow put an HDMI port but not replace the DVI. Otherwise, MBP is perfect for a mobile desktop.

What I would like to see:
-1650x1050 res for 15" models
-Easier to access HD for upgrading
-HD activity lights (the one thing I miss about a PC laptop)
-More USB ports
-Better GPU (The 9600M would be good once it is announced)

I wanna form factor redesign! If that comes later this year I might just get one!

What does everybody who wants this see being done? I'm all for updating stuff, but I can't find anything aside from a magnetic latch that the MBP case needs. Well, unless they go all iPoddy and let me get a red MBP. THEN I'm all for it.

i would love to see

-4 USB ports
-At least 2.6 GHz as the base model and 2.8 for BTO
-ATi 2900 HD 512 - im quite bored with Nvidia already, unless it's a 8800 GT
-HDMI Ports
-Less Heat and prolly Better Battery Life for like 5 - 6 hrs of usage

the rest are just as good as it is now

i love the design, and i dont wish for a complete re-design also the keyboard are the best now, changing the keyboard to the MB style would be a silly move for Apple

at least im hoping these to come true on the next Penryn MBP gen

maybe gen 2 or 3

i'd be happy with just the ff for the 15":

3 usb ports
lighter weight (4-4.5lbs would be awesome)
magnetic latch
HDD would be easier to replace and not void warranty

a case redesign, not necessarily significant, but visually distinguishable.
bigger illuminated trackpad

screw the CD drive, downloading is the future. Replace with slot to shove iPhone in for sync. that's be awesome since that would also give your laptop 2.5G or whatever G.

MB style HDD replacement
Higher Res Screen ( 1680 x 1050 on 15" )
Screen hinge just fixed. It's crap.
MBA style keyboard ( the backlighting on the MBP keyboard just doesn't work very well you're looking straight down on it )
BR optical drive. These arguments about downloaded HD content are moot. A means to backup many gigs onto an optical medium will be usefull for years and years to come.
FREE REMOTE ( when you spend £1600 on a laptop, asking for more for a remote is a insult )
Maglatch.

BUt in terms of CPU and GFX, it's fine.

And make a 12" version Apple - it's a fairly damning report on your engineering talent if you can't. The MBA is NOT a 12" PB replacement.

MAGNETIC LATCH! They are so awesome and have better visual appeal I just don't know why Apple hasn't done anything yet.

Some of the earlier articles I've read about Montevina talked about how motherboards can be made 40% smaller with the new chipset. If that's true, surely they can fit a dedicated GPU and all the fun stuff that makes a MBP into something the size of a MacBook, right? 12" might be pushing it, as they seem to want to keep their full-sized keyboard.

I won't keep my hopes up, but it would make June or July worth waiting for.
