do you think apple would do this without first offering os x in a usb stick?

even hp envy ditch the optical - plz apple do same (but right)....

Apple is the king of "upselling", so no, they wouldn't necessarily sell OSX on a USB stick first. They'd sell it on disks and want you to purchase their external Superdrive to install it, just like they do with the Air (OSX cd's in the box with the Air, but no way to install them unlss you purchase an external drive). Equals more money for Apple buying additional external DVD drive.

I agree in regards to optical media - it should be dead. At the very least bring on the Isolinear chips (*cough*Star Trek*cough*) or holographic storage cubes/cards/pieces of cool glowing perspex.

As such, I'd replace the optical bay with larger battery, and option for a second hard drive, and squeeze in some more cooling space.
