Yeah, we should keep in mind the likely extra year of OS upgrade. The feature differences between S6 and S7 may not be that big now, but once it gets to the point where S7 gets an OS upgrade but the S6 doesn't, you are going to feel the difference.
OS upgrades will probably follow the processor. Since the Series 6 & 7 have the same processor they will most likely be phased out together.

Upgrade cost is actually the same or better for the used SS. If he buys a used Series 6 SS for $400 he can sell it next year for $300 and get a used SS Series 7 for $400. If he buys a new aluminum for $430 he's probably gonna lose more than $100.

I can understand wanting new, but your upgrade cost is probably higher.

Could be in that case, but in mine it’s more likely to keep the device in the family for a bit longer and pass it down to the kids, for example.

Let me tempt you. For years I stuck with the aluminum version of the watch. I wanted the stainless but the expense didn’t seem worth it because I knew I was buying something I would upgrade anyway, I was happy with my purchase but was always a little disappointed I didn’t get the Stainless. Last year, I bought a new Series 6 Stainless Steel watch. I wouldn’t go back to aluminum for anything now, I love the weight and the look of it. My honest advice if you are leaving the country, save up a couple more bucks / trade in and get the Series 7 stainless, you will not regret the purchase and the upgrade. I don’t.

If you plan to keep the Watch for 3-4 years, I’d go with the stainless steel over the aluminium, because of its increased durability. I find aluminium to be a great option for someone that upgrade frequently
Durability is negated with having AppleCare+

Apple Watch for 3-4yrs is a long time. Those with S0/S1 series can attest to slow performance for multitude OG functions beyond just time, date Alena and notification alerts (not viewing just the alert).

Also AppleCare+ gets you a new watch new battery resets any water resistance issues that potentially would’ve occurred in that time (frequent salt water swimmers).

Ding the aluminum a few times. Get it replaced with tiny deductible. Battery life charging issues replaced. I did this with the S3 & S4Nike+ I had.

Pro tip: if your shower/bath tub has the old school soap dish and it’s your first Apple Watch, you’re likely going to ding the aluminum on it during a shower maybe twice before you adjust. Hence why AppleCare+ on ANY Apple Watch is a sound purchase!

You were a little disappointed with Aluminum, why? Is it just cause you always wanted SS and just upgraded, personal preference?

Cool. If Apple made Nike+ in SS space Black I’d be all over it like stink on doodoo

Oh, I have the money, I just don't feel comfortable dropping that much on a watch with a limited lifetime. No judgement on those who do, but it feels like too much to spend on a watch for me. I'm fully aware that this sounds like an arbitrary line to draw, and it is, but it's my line and I'm sticking to it. I still have a little bit of time so I could always keep an eye out for a good deal on used SS7.

Functionally they are the same. That was purely a cosmetic choice and you can definitely feel the better materials. You can customize any watch with any band I believe. I did.

My thought process is this. Watches are literally the only jewelry I wear, so I don’t mind spending a little extra for something that looks a little better.

I totally agree with this.

I don't agree with bring forced to spend a ton more money to get something that's a genuine black. :)
But then I'm spending a ton more than I would on a black cheap Casio, so you know.. Still - I hope they resume sensible colours for the next generation without forcing us to either 1) skip that generation or 2) go for a more expensive material.

Yep, exactly the same here plus a general desire for high quality in most parts of my life/environment ??

Definitely can understand that. I feel a LOT of people that are interested in any version of the Apple Watch or a smartwatch are in the same vote.

I personally think they're great.

Apple needs to work on the following in my opinion:

Larger, longer lasting battery life/capacity - 2 full days minimum, full of notifications, emails, maps, whatever usually drains the battery fastest. If this can last 10hrs/day for 2 days on top of standby this would be ideal. Who knows maybe Apple is waiting for full production from https://www.skeletontech.com/news/s...a-new-graphene-battery-charging-in-15-seconds.

Larger screens: 44 + 51/52mm allowing for more information, better interaction and the larger battery capacity.

Nike+ - needs to be further differentiated that just a few display screens and initial band choices. If not then the Watch SE and Sport models will affect Nike+ Watch sales heavily going forward.

Warranty: Longer default warranty! Should close to 3-5yrs. Allow end users without AC+ to cover cost of non-faulty battery replacement at any time - say same iphone battery capacity threshold of 80%? I mean it's close to this already. AC+ should (and existing subscribers/purchasers to it) be grandfathered so that the current initial 1yr standard warranty completes first - BEFORE AC+ begins.

I'm not that bothered by the current battery life, but more is always better.

I think there's a limit to screen size. I see a lot of people walking around with watches that are way too big for them already. Maybe they could jsut have a third, larger option.

I think the Nike versions are fine. You get an extra watchface or two and a different strap for the same price as the normal aluminium. I don't know that it needs to be anything more than that.

I'd settle for user-repairability and access to parts. It's already only $80 (in the US) to get your watch battery replaced out of warranty when it's down to 80% health, it's only once you need other things replaced or fixed that the out of warranty prices get a little stupid.
