My poppop is out of range of this poll at 1898. But i think he only made to to his mid 80s when he died.In the 90s my great grandma and her sisters died in their 90s.
Her daughter died at 90 last December. I then realized that WW2 started when she was 9.
Ended when she was 13. 1st moon landing occurred when she was 37.
Education is just educated to me. Smart is adapting, out of the box, quick learners etc...A talent, not something you can learnCan you expand on how you decide somebody is one of the "smart people"? Is it their behavior? Or how much formal education they have? Or their job? Or something else? I'm just wondering, my intent isn't to question your post.
We'd be lucky to live as long as they did without suffering any major surgery, remain independently mobile and avoiding all NCDs.My poppop is out of range of this poll at 1898. But i think he only made to to his mid 80s when he died.
Yea I think he died of colon cancer but otherwise was great. He walked miles every day. My nana had diabetes but still lived to 70s I think, maybe early 80s.We'd be lucky to live as long as they did without suffering any major surgery, remain independently mobile and avoiding all NCDs.
They are lucky that they grew up in a food environment that avoided a lot of fast food. Although they had a taste for canned goods and other imports. They largely kept it to a minimum.
Today though... with food/delivery apps I can get food items that were only available during festivals that can be delivered to my door within 30 mins without my needing to spend any fuel or parking money. I had to delete those apps out of fear of OD-ing.
As Apple owners/users we have little or no excuse to not eat better, live better and do better.
Sure. You are asking a very good and a valid question as everybody understands "being smart" differently. Can you expand on how you decide somebody is one of the "smart people"? Is it their behavior? Or how much formal education they have? Or their job? Or something else? I'm just wondering, my intent isn't to question your post.

In a context of my post I would consider "being smart" is when you are essentially a "player" with you own clear intent and agenda and a strong administration skills to implement your plans into reality by utilizing both your friends and enemies alike in your "game plan".
Thanks for including the links. Would you happen to have a more contemporary characters/historical person in mind that was actively in the headlines after Y2K?So, if I understand you correctly, Prince Metternich was a real life "smart" person and Colonel Kurtz a fictional one?
Whew! What a relief. It’s not just me.Yea that was what so fun back then was the social aspect. I loved to help the ones who wanted help, and people could learn by watching me.
Whew! What a relief. It’s not just me.
I try to describe this to younger friends who stare at me with bewilderment. Going to the mall and the arcade were social events. You could talk but you didn’t have to talk. There was no test of social skills. Before “the mall” (the one I grew up with) closed, I took my Mom with me for one last visit. We talked for an hour with a young woman working at one of the remaining stores. She was genuinely intrigued about what the mall used to be like especially with the absence of social media.
My experience is that malls in the US are doing well in more affluent areas. They are closing or struggling in less affluent areas. My area of Ohio seemed to overbuild so that none of the malls can survive.Arcades to me was Daytona USA. Spent an unhealthy amount of tokens playing that game in the 90s. After which eat at KFC! 90s KFC is way better than today's KFC.
I even remember flying to HK and other islands to play it during free time... looking back... I think it odd that I did that.
Also remembered doing LaserTag at the mall after buying comic books and trading cards.
In my country mall culture's still very much alive as it is a great place to entertain guests and friends especially if you do not want to do cleanup or parking's a headache where you lived.
But I've noticed that like the US more and more people prefer the convenience and pricing online. I was able to buy an iPad case with free shipping for <$20/case. Much cheaper than Amazon! lol
Traffic, fuel, parking and time makes me not want to go to the mall. Possible COVID infection does not help.
Back in 2019 I was listening to NPR's Planet Money episode of Dollar Store and using them as an indicator of the decline of retail/malls.My experience is that malls in the US are doing well in more affluent areas. They are closing or struggling in less affluent areas.
My guess would be some smart fella was trying to take advantage of a tax code or govt incentive to increase property values. My area of Ohio seemed to overbuild so that none of the malls can survive.
And the older I get the less the first one irritates me and the more the second one aggravates me.Exactly just don't call me profanity or late for dinner.
That same Video8 tape is compatible with Digital8 camcorder with FW400. So in theory I could easily move them to any old PPC or early Mac with FW that I still have.
That's good to know!Believe it or not, you can still connect a Digital8 camcorder to a modern Mac and digitize those old tapes. I do it with my M1 MBA and it works great. Just need a Firewire to DisplayPort adapter.![]()
That's good to know!Thank you!
TBH I should have moved that video from Video8 to the Mac back 22 years ago. 🤣
Yea the best thing is I am generally terrified of strangers, but at an arcade, you already know they have a common interest, and it's fun. Same with any other face to face club. You are all there because you like a common thing like chess or D&D or computers or video games. I don't want to go to some generel meetup where you just talk. I like to do something while talking like board games cards etc...Whew! What a relief. It’s not just me.

In my experience... limit exposure from those people who do not want the best for you. enjoy your life independently when possibleOne of the other posters suggested that the people around you should only want the best outcome for you. In reality this is almost never achievable as even your close relatives might have and pursue their own interests.
I once joined a Star Trek club because all my friends were not trekkies. This was when the Season DVDs started to come outYea the best thing is I am generally terrified of strangers, but at an arcade, you already know they have a common interest, and it's fun.
