Thanks all. Kinda hoping to hear from all those who bought a 32GB iPad 9.7, not those who didn't. If you didn't buy a 32GB, I get it; you didn't buy it because you'd fill it up fast. But what about those who did buy it. How's the 32GB working out for you?

I don't really get the question. It's working out the same way a 16gb or 256gb iPad is working for people. It's either being filled with a lot of stuff, or not much at all.

If you're trying to base other user's usage habits to decide whether or not you should get the 32gb model... Well, I don't see how this can help you. For someone who streams and browses the web, well low storage should be fine. If you load it up with high def movies and record a lot of audio with garage band, not so much.

A couple games, few hundred photos, some comics and books and I'm hurting for space.

I'm definitely going to need to upgrade to 128gb.

It says my capacity is 26.4G and I have 41 apps and have 26.4GB and I have 22.2GB available. I don't have a lot of pictures or music at the moment but I have lots of free space for them. I think I will do fine with 32GB. But Apple should have a 64GB option for people that need little more but don't need 128GB.

I reckon establishing price points is the issue there.

Likely price structure:
32GB $599
64GB $649
128GB $749
256GB $899

Pricing for 32GB and 64GB would've been too close together. Either that or 64GB would've been too close to 128GB pricing.

The 32GB should of been $499, $549 tops to begin with not $599. The Air 2 was $499 but they raised it $100. The iPad Pro is basically a iPad Air 2 with 4 speakers. I don't know why they raised it $100. I know a lot of people that were going to upgrade to the Air 3 but are not because of the $100 price increase. I am even thinking about returning my pro. I am a little disappointed and don't really see any difference between my original iPad Air except for the 4 speakers. I thought it would be faster and more snappier than my Air but I don't notice any improvement.

Look at something else then google pictures for the differences... there are plenty.

They didn´t raise it by $100 at all. This is simply the price for the model with all these features. People just stare blindly at the fact that they want an ipad which can do more then the ipad air 2 but costs less then the ipad pro.
There isn´t a model like that. So either get a cheap(er) air 2 or pay up for the pro. Or keep the current air 2 or do nothing at all.

32gb on a Pro would serve me exactly the same way it did with the Air.
I lived with it, but I longed for more space so that I could carry with me more picture, more videos, more podcasts, more music, more everything.
In fact with 32gb I didn't carry with me almost anything at all and I entirely relied on being able to access data online (not always possible).
And that's why I bought a 128gb.

Hmm, I actually wonder if we might see an iPad Air 3 this fall with A9X but no True Tone, Pencil or Smart Connector. It just seems weird to me that there's no new iPad occupying the $499 price point as that's actually a pretty significant number in terms of behavioral economics. Yes, there's the Air 2 64GB but it's not quite the same. Mayhaps we'll see an Air 3 32GB?

I'm not really begrudging Apple the higher cost of entry on their Pro models. I've seen Wacom tablet inputs costing $1000+.

I feel they may update the 12.9 inch model and mini perhaps but leave it there for this year. Putting another model between the pro and air 2 in the current market feels very ineffective.

I bought the 32GB. I have a 6+ 128GB which is always on me and holds all my music so I don't need much space for music anymore and can just download it as necessary from Apple Music. After putting my main apps and such on the new 32, I have about 20GB left. Plenty for additional apps, photos, and docs as they arise. I tend to offload my devices of photos and video quite regularly to my server box as a backup and centralized access anyways.

I just exchanged my 9.7 Pro 32gb for the 128gb model. I was surprised how much it would replace my MacBook so figured I'll get more mileage with the the extra storage.

However, free space on the 32gb model prior to exchange was about 20-22gb. I can't exactly recall. I restored my new 128gb with the 32gb's backup and somehow only have 109gb free now. I can't seem to find where all the extra data is hiding...:(

The larger storage capacity models have less space available than advertised and it increases as you step up. I remember seeing something about this on one of these threads, but can't remember which one.

Example
16gb models have 11gb or so usable space.
32gb models have 25gb or so usable space.
64gb models have 55gb or so usable space.
128gb models have like 112gb usable space.

Thanks for the clue. Article below shares similar logic.

I'm on a 32GB right now. I have 4GB free, but I have a ton of apps installed and my photo library is taking up 3.6GB (It is stored on iCloud Drive so I can free up space there) and I have 2GB of downloaded WWDC videos. Not a lot of large games, the largest is Hearthstone. I think I'll be fine with this...I'll definitely have to trim up some stuff in the future.

I do wish Apple would have done 64GB at the base model, but then they couldn't charge $150 for the storage upgrade...I have a 128GB 12.9" and I have so much space available on that thing.

Basically if you are the type that wants to buy everything and have everything installed and ready 100% of the time then get the upgrade, otherwise you can probably live on the 32GB.

I have 32GB also and so far so good. Preferred bigger storage but 128GB was too much for me and stayed w/ 32GB. (When I was using Air 2 64GB for a year, noticed that I have used about 30GB of storage) Since using it mostly for reading books and watching videos via streaming services. 32GB works for me.
