Mine is at 80% and it has stayed there for months

I have extended apple care so whenever it goes to 79% i am eligible for a battery change

But i've noticed it just WON'T go below 80%.... Wonder if they do this on purpose ! Would love a new battery.

I think on purpose due to the complaints a few years ago. Mine also says 80% and Apple told me they don't replace under warranty unless it goes below...convenient.

But, the battery still is good on my M1 MacBook Pro as I keep it on power most of the time for video editing.

Have you calibrated the battery recently? For that you should charge it to 100%, use it until it shuts itself down, then immediately charge. After check the health again.

I did and it's still at 80%
This is quite suspicious. I feel like it's never gonna drop below 80%.

Mine is still at 99%. It's almost always plugged in, but I've only charged it to 80% since I got it.

2021 MacBook Pro M1 Max
Used many hours on most days, often on battery

I took this screenshot on battery. I've been using this on battery pretty much for the past 7 hours.

91% at 100 cycles. M1 MBP 14. Still have the sleep drain issue that I’ve troubleshoot to death.

My 16" M1 MBP is at 87% at 485 cycles. Bought it refurbished about a year ago, so don't know how previous user was using the battery.

My 16" M1 Pro that I bought in November 2021 System Report shows:

I've been using Al Dente app to control battery charging from day 1. I use mine plugged-in more than 90% of the time.

I think I might get to 1000 cycles or more and still have a battery health of 80% or higher. I am impressed by the battery of this MacBook Pro.

Wow, I wonder why it went down to 80%? You are shy of 500 cycles. As of today, I have 970 cycles, and the battery health is 83% according to macOS, while coconutBattery says the battery is at 81%, sometimes 81.5%, and rarely I have seen 82%.

You don't have to wonder. It's a known fact that they don't show real battery health %, when your device is new it will be sitting at 100% for ages, to make you feel nice about yourself.

It's almost always plugged in, but I've only charged it to 80% since I got it.
There's no way you could have only charged it to 80% since you got it. Apple doesn't allow you to set a hard stop on 80%, you rely on their "intelligence" which does what it wants however it feels like that day, even if you're almost always plugged in.

That's not what's happening there. The battery health in settings will never show more than 100% but many batteries actually start a bit over 100% capacity so if the battery actually started at 103 % it has to degrade 4% until it finally drops to 99%. That takes quite some time, especially as degradation is slow in the beginning anyways. If you don't believe me, check CoconutBattery on a brand new device - good chance you're starting above 100% but Apple will not show that.

Now the "sitting around 80% for a long time" is indeed suspicious, but your example is no proof of that.

You completely missed the point, fella. Apple will purposefully keep showing 100% even AFTER your battery dropped below 100% for a period of time. It's a known fact.

Mine should remain mostly plugged in, but my wife and daughter both can't be bothered to find their own chargers and just unplug mine since it's already green. No amount of reasoning with them will get them to stop.
