Never really cared about the battery on it. Purchased in Jan 2022 my M1 Pro shows battery life at 83%. I usually replace my laptops every 6 years and have never replaced a battery, they just don’t hold a charge as long 😅

Mine says "Service Recommended", but I can't find the battery health percentage anywhere (I can on my iPhone, "Service Recommended"/79%).
Could go 2 days on a charge at first (M1 MBP 16"), now I can't quite go 1 day; new battery eventually.

EDIT: I found it, MBP batt at 76%

This was the battery state of my 2020 Intel i7 MBP before I sold it last week. I used it almost exclusively on battery power. I was going to wait for next year's M6 OLED, but it was starting to get hinky running Tahoe, so I'm typing this on a new M5 MBP. With 24GB of RAM, this machine is twice as fast as the 32GB Intel MBP. Also, I'm keeping this one plugged in and using optimized charging. Only 4 cycles thus far.

Cause I’ve used it every day for years and it’s still working great.
I get that, but what does Apple have to do with you winning the battery lottery. It's all chemistry and a chain of multiple environmental contributing factors that make same product behave in different ways even if used in similar scenarios.

That's not true at all.
Power and thermal management dramatically affect battery longevity and they are part of the hardware, firmware and OS design.

are part of the hardware
like the hardware and firmware that keeps the fans off all the time even when the cpu is running hot (or doesn't include fans at all) to improve user experience - I personally love a quiet laptop, but let's be real - this ain't a "great" product from battery longevity stand point. You just got a lucky draw in the battery chemistry lottery.

We'd got 21 results. One "needs service" at 76,
We have a few 80s balanced by a few 99s and 98.
We've got an average of 86.5.
(80+80+99+99+82+82+91+87+83+85+98+83+90+80+81+92+88+83+76+93+85)/21

Google says 2-4 years is an expected timeframe for a laptop battery to drop below 80%, so the fact that only ONE respondent has dropped this far within the upper end of the timeframe says we're batting well above average... Add on to that the original battery life was well above industry average, and your reduced life likely remains above industry average... but yeah, Apple's laptops aren't good products.

Perhaps your system is having trouble, but the majority aren't having your problem. Just because you lost the battery lottery doesn't mean Apple's products aren't well above average quality.

Not sure if you're referring to me buddy, because I never claimed that I lost the battery lottery. That wasn't part of the discussion with the other fella. Reverse logic doesn't work here.

Mine is quite rubbish, to be honest. MBP 14" M1 Max
It was already down to 95% after 35 cycles, now it's at 86% after 250 cycles. How can it be this bad?

95% at 131 cycles.

What's interesting is that it dropped to 95% after about 100 cycles, but since setting up a charging limit to 80%, it's held at 95%.

I do a 20% to 100% cycle every month or so.

Same laptop, I have 88% with 135 cycles. Interestingly enough, when I bought it, brand new, the battery was empty. After first charge coconutBattery showed 100% capacity (so less than you'd typically get from a brand new battery). I decided to keep it, since I got an AC on it but the fact that it somehow managed to discharge itself in transit was an interesting situation.

MBP 2021, 97% at 97 cycles lol, it's been sailing between 70% and 80% with AlDente Pro a lot.

Do you charge via MagSafe? I had AlDente on for a while and it started triggering led flashing indicating a fault, due to the way it tricks the charging. Had to uninstall it shortly after.

Yes, no problems so far. I disabled charge on sleep fwiw.

There's the old difference of opinion. Run your battery done to 'Low Battery' warning or plug it in full-time. Opinions, please.

Apple doesn't make my batteries anymore so I have to rely on third-party Chinese batts. Luck of the draw. I've had long-lasting, 2+ years, and one that died in 6 months.

M1 MBP 14 - 109 cycle, 88% health. Not great but considering the age I guess I understand.

My MBP 14" M1 Pro battery's health dropped quickly into the mid 80% range after only 6 months of usage but then settled and stayed in that range for a long time after. This laptop stays mainly plugged in with being used on battery maybe a few times a month.
