I have bought a HP monitor 27FW with Speakers. It's connected with a HDMI cable to a Geforce 980 in my Mac Pro 5,1. But I have no sound in the speakers. Do I need an additional cable?

Thanks. I read:
To enable sound from the monitor’s speakers, connect one end of an audio cable (not included) to the audio-in jack on the monitor and the other end to the audio-out jack on the source device.. Which one is the audio jack-in?

The rear components are described with a pic on page 3 of the manual. If you're only wanting to use the speakers on the monitor itself, I'm not sure how to help you. I assume you've checked whatever control panel is available with the monitor as well as the macOS sound preference, volume control, etc.?

The English manual mentions the audio-jack cable, the Dutch manual doesn't.
And I am unable to contact HP by phone, really a bad service. 👎
Their virtual help-assitant is useless.
Thanks WildSky, with the link to the English manual, I think you solved my problem.

I bought an audio cable with two male jacks 3,5 and connected the line out of my mac pro to the audio in of the monitor. However, still no sound although I selected line out in the control panel. Is there someone who can help me.

Did you connect the audio cable to the 3.5mm jack closest to the VGA port? Are the monitor's speakers muted or is the volume turned all the way down by any chance?

I'm thinking that the old Mac Pro doesn't send audio through the HDMI port of those cards, particularly if it's a 3rd party card with flashed firmware.
Have you been able to verify that audio is sent via HDMI with a different monitor or TV?

That's why I used the jack audio cable. But it didn't work. 😕

The volume of the sound is set to 70% but there is no sound.

The audio analog line out, the normal one that always works with speakers.
Verify that the Mac's port works with other speakers, then verify the monitor's speakers work by plugging in your phone or something into the monitor's audio-in port.
Then verify the cable you're using works (and has stereo plugs at each end) by using it to patch different devices.

The audio out from my Mac Pro works.
The audio in of my monitor connected to an iPhone doesn't work.

Today, I connected the monitor to my MacBook Pro and the sound works with my HP 27 FW. However the quality is as bad as the internal speakers of my Mac Pro 5,1. The HP 27 F is a better buy.
