HP 8500 Duplex problem

Sadly, the HP 8500 printer is no longer supported by HP, but I have an HP 8500 A910. When printing from my macbook (OS X 10.10.5) the duplex option continually resets, so I have to go into the printer settings to enable it every time I print. I believe this was introduced in an HP driver update (am on driver version 4.1.1. How do I fix this? HP is no help.
