My HP Z5000 Bluetooth mouse has started losing connection after my 2019 iMac 27" has been running a few weeks straight. Turning it off and on sometimes works, but usually I have to unpair and repair. It happens as often as a few times a day.

I know the simple solution would be to restart, but why should I have to? My Apple Bluetooth keyboard stays connected fine.

It's been happening for the past few versions of Mojave - has anything changed regarding Bluetooth connectivity?

Or could my mouse's BT chip be wearing out? I've had it a few years now.

Sorry, yes, should have mentioned, changing batteries has been part of my troubleshooting.

Do you have the Android File Transfer app installed on your Mac? If yes: open a terminal and kill the Android File Transfer PID. If the problem disappears uninstall the Android File Transfer App. Reboot your Mac, do amazing things!🤜🤛😎

EDIT: Additionally please check the energy saving options in the system preferences. Uncheck/untick pausing the entire computer when the screen is off.

Thanks for the further advice. I don't use Android File Transfer, and I'd rather not have to alter my sleep settings for the sake of the mouse.

Looks like I may have to resolve to restoring more regular unless another solution emerges...

P.S. It seems turning the iMac's Bluetooth off and on again works, it's just painful when you need a wired mouse to do it.

Restart.
Go get some coffee, or use the bathroom.
Things will be better when you get back.

Update: Been working again for a few days since turning Bluetooth off and on. Maybe the module needs a reset after being in continuous use?
