Husband has a mini 2012 running 10.10.6. I'm trying to hook up a hp envy 5055 all in one printer which is suppose to be compatible for 10.10 to 10.12. However hp seems not to support this printer anymore. Can't find where to get drivers for the printer/scanner. HP wants me to either upgrade the printer (which won't run on 10.10), upgrade OS on the mini to handle a newer printer they do still support, or I guess buy a different brand of printer. Haven't had any luck with hp phone support (the answer being the same). My questions are:
1) am I even in the right forum?
2) is there some place I can find the driver for mac 0S 10.10 somewhere safe in the wide world of the internet?
3) Is it possible to upgrade a 2012 mini to 10.12 without running into compatibility issues caused by the hardware that OS 10.12 might want to address that's not on the 2012 mini because the hardware wasn't in existence when the 2012 model was released?
4) any suggestions?

The 2012 Mac mini can upgrade all the way to 10.15.7 Catalina, which runs fine on those computers and will be much more compatible with newer software and accessories.

Did you try downloading HP Easy Start from the HP Support Site?

I don't know if it's just me. But it seems like HP removed the legacy offline installers from their support site. As I just checked my two old HP printers and the Full installers are no longer available. For old versions of macOS and Windows, let alone the current OS versions. I guess it pays off that I keep an archive of installers for any hardware I buy on my server.

Think maybe i'll Carbon Copy Cloner a clone to an external drive, upgrade 10.10 to 10.12 on that and then try installing the hp envy on that one to see if it works from there for a while. Forget what brand the external drive bay is, but it's a USB connection I've used before on the mini as a startup. Gotta check that point to make sure since it's late in day right now and I might be muddled. Will do that at the beginning of a new day me thinks. But thinking right now that I did that last year as part of setting up his "new" older mini. That way it can be temporary in case I screw it up.

Yes velocity4. Think you're right unless there's a "secret" page somewhere. I've just been through 44 pages of software dl's for envy printers and didn't find one either. Thanks to you too.

oh forgot to answer your first question velocity... Yes. When I hooked up the printer it auto started Easy Start and never got much past that. I dl'd it from hp, ran it and had the same hang. That's when I started looking for a page with the actual driver for the printer and found that while I could find enormous #'s of drivers for individual envy printers, there were none for the envy 5055 in either pc or mac flavors.

ok got everything up and running... the age old solution.. cold boot. Was after 2 of them that the magic happened. Thanks again for taking the time.

Thanks California. It's a Envy 5055. All is fine now. Prints, scans & copies

I had followed the link that Velocity put up. Originally the printer screen told me to go there for an auto download. Previous to posting here the first time, I had gone to the 123hp.com as directed (with printer USB connected and on) But it didn't finish the download. Got an error message. Don't remember exact words, but that's what led me to believe that 10.10 wasn't supported at hp any longer. It may have been that I needed to upgrade the OS. Just don't remember.

It was after some bit of hunting all over that I posted the "help me" message here. Installed the driver directly this time from the link Velocity posted. Printer was listed in the system folder but printer still didn't work (yet). I rebooted after installing, but I just did a "restart" not "shut down". As I said somewhere up there, it wasn't until after I shut down and restarted with a cold boot twice that the computer and the printer found each other. After the cold boots I checked system pref's printers/scanners, and the envy 5055 was there. The list had only included his old cannon all the times I had looked before. In the end OS upgrade wasn't needed.
