I have not heard anything about the blue, OEM ipods announced as by The Steve at, what was it Macworld, last winter? Does anyone know what happened to that deal?

seems that dropped off the face of the earth. HP handheld page (http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/prodserv/handheld.html) doesnt even mention it.

However, according to the Apple press release, we still have time.

Pricing & Availability
HP’s digital music player is expected to become available this summer and be competitively priced to other digital music players currently available.

Beginning this summer, the iTunes software and a desktop icon guiding users to the music site will be preloaded on HP Pavilion, Media Center and Compaq Presario desktop and notebook consumer PCs.

Well, if iTunes is now being shipped on HP computers, then thats good for Apple - as I think that was the main thing they had to gain from the deal.
So if the HP iPods have vanished for now - I'm sure Apple don't mind :p

My wife works for HP and she hasn't heard anything official from internal sources other than what's already publicly released. Kicker is, she has a $500 "gift check" for goodies from HP's internal store and she's waiting for the HP iPods to be released to use it.

If I hear anything, I'll post back here.

I think they will release them when Apple releae the 4th Generation iPods. Makes sense, it isn't rocket science. However, most people peg the Paris Expo as the place to release them. Does that venue still count as a summer event?

I would be interested in a hPod, it is Blue after all!

I remember seeing pictures of it on HP's site, and the iPod looked absolutely horrid with that particular blue. https://forums.macrumors.com/images/icons/icon13.gif

In any event, it's a major faux pas that such a big deal was made months ago with nothing to show for it. Maybe I'm trivializing, but it seems to me that the hardest thing to do would have been to get iTunes on the Desktop.

I suspect that they are waiting for the next revision of iPods. If they were not, what is so hard about changing the color of the iPod from white to light blue or making it "boot up" with a HP logo instead of an Apple? (I don't know if it "boots up"; I don't have one.)

I'll still be the Apple Logo, and you only see it when it's connected to the computer or disconnected.
