Heyyyyy...your right. Now that I look at it, my shuffle says ah-pull...and it's written in crayon! That's the last time I buy from that guy in the trenchcoat!

BUT, I just don't understand why folks would want an HP-branded iPod, though. Are people really that dumb to think that they won't work on PCs unless they have a well-known PC company's brand on them?

Yes. People are stupid. There are people who, on the mere mention of "Apple" will stop listening to everything you have to say because they think it's only for some weird little computer that they have no interested in learning about. There are far too many people out there who think:
- iPods can only play music purchased from the iTunes store.
- The only software that runs on Macs is written by Apple
- All Mac peripherals must come from Apple
- if something has an Apple logo on it, then it must only work on MACs [sic] or "Apples". Nevermind Apple sold cross platform laser printers, displays, etc. years ago.

Just curious--what have iPods taken away from Apple's computer business?

According to the Apple revolutionaries, their soul. You know, the ones who have no tolerance for anything done differently than Apple's way. Who cares which company is on the iPod as long as its an iPod being sold and not a Zen. Why do they advertise the iPod? Because it's a mainstream product unlike what most of the stuff Apple sells.

If I remember correctly, iBooks were last updated some time in late Autumn 2004, so its not "over a year"

Oh yeah, those updates. Such major changes. I don't know how I forgot about them.

Frequent minor updates are fine. Infrequent major updates are fine. This is how it goes with the iPod. They care about the iPod and its users. Too bad the same cannot be said of the iBook. Infrequent minor updates is not a good combination. I think updating and showing off the iPod at an education conference while letting the iBook rot sums up Apple's priorities very well.

In the UK, i don't know wheeeeether it's just me, but i have heard next to bugger all about the HP iPods......i mean, are they branded with the HP logo? where are they sold...? who gets the profit? what was the point?

forgive my questions if they sound like stupid no-brainers, but enlighten me..... :p

Um, Macs and iPods are completely different departments and have nothing to do with one another. They are releasing new iPods and lowering prices BECAUSE THEY CAN! This is why we're moving to Intel. There's nothing to update. Maybe a better video card and a 1.42GHz G4, which you lot will still complain about. Yeah, it sucks that there's no new iBook... but the iPod has NOTHING to do with it. If anything, the iPod and the hPod are HELPING Apple while they have nothing new to show computer-wise.

We are moving to Intel. Like it or not that will help since IBM and Freescale are going nowhere fast. Apple will still be selling computers and riding the iPod phenom. I can't believe everyone is complaining about something that is profiting Apple and gaining media attention. Maybe even gaining that much needed marketshare everyone is also complaining so much about.

theres another thread i was just reading about apple ads, linked to a page here that has alot of older Apple ads, and there are alot of iMac ads. they definetly advertised the iMac alot.

Considering you can't avoid iPod ads on TV, bilboards and the magazines EVEN over here in the UK, and the iPod silhouette theme is now one of the most popular advertising campigns in recent history, I'd say the iMac has been pretty much neglected by Apple.

People need to realise that in our societies, images is EVERYTHING, or at least it is to 90% of the population. Apple need to make the iMac just as if not more famous than the iPod, it needs to be on the tip of everyones tongue and the cutting edge of popular culture.

Perhaps. But that apple logo, courtesy of the ipod, is now more famous than ever before, and that apple logo is also on the imac. Apple has tried advertizing macs heavily, and what it gets them is "ooh, cool, but not for me". But the ipod HAS reached everybody, and made apple one of the most revered brands of modern time. And that can't be bad for the imac, can it?

Sears selling HP iPods

I was at my local mall yesterday and noticed a huge sign hanging in side the Sears store. It said iPod+HP now available at Sears.

Didn't say if they have shuffels but wouldn't be suprised.

Bingo. The iPod is a mainstream product that can be useful to everybody. It looks cool too. The iMac is a great product, but all in ones aren't for everybody.

All in due time...

I think they are taking their operating system's names to heart. They're just stalking now - soon, they will pounce.

Saw BOTH HP Shuffles and Apple Shuffles at our local Walmart. I did not know that Walmart was going to carry the HP one. Anyway, I don't see the point. Apple doesn't REALLY make them and neither does HP.

I doubt you'll find that any of the brands really make their own products but they design them, specify components, and assure quality products.

OK - the really humerous follow-up to my original post to which you're replying is this:

The other day I'm out and about in San Francisco and my cell phone rings - I check the number, and it's my boss calling. I'm thinking, what's going on at work on a Saturday? So I answer. He says, "Sorry to bother you on the weekend, but I just got a quick question for you: I'm thinking of getting my daughter an iPod for her birthday, do they work on PCs?"

I stand corrected.

The funny thing is, what is the poing in buying an Apple iPod from HP? Same price, no? Why not just buy from Apple?

Because some people in the "PC world" who think Apple is some weird comapny which makes incompatible products, is more familiar and can relate better to a company like HP. Never underestimate the ignorance and misconceptions of some people.
