This is exactly the kind of feedback that I was looking for. Thank you both very much. I'll get a Z27q ordered up as soon as I can. Thanks!!!

I agree with josh5k. The display is a game changer. I'm using it as my sole display without any issues. If you unplug/replug it in a lot you might experience some weirdness, but if you just leave it connected all the time it works fine. I'm convinced it's the best display currently available for the nMP.

Okay I'm planning to use it with a Hackintosh
I own a 2015 macbook pro also with r9 370x
I just wana know can I use it with macbook also?
Don't want to squeeze full 5k just 4k even will do for me so a single DP/Thunderbolt might serve me, so will this macbook work?
Also I have Hackintosh with 280x which I will soon replace to get either R9 390 or higher AMD GPU (want to stick to AMD gpus)
So need some input do I need any special equipment to calibrate it or is it good enough out of the box?
Cost I'm getting locally is 490$ but without warranty just checking warranty of 2 weeks by the retailer, yes it's risky but the cost is too good for a 5k display n much better alternative than iMac 5k ;)
So any bad experiences or any cautions???

Nobody knows how the hackintosh will work.

The 2015 Macbook Pro officially supports 5k so that or single cable 4k will work.

Anything new on this issue? I hooked up my new Z27q to my relatively new Mac Pro (6,1/late 2013) running 10.11.5 El Capitan and after some tinkering I got it to work in 5K, although there was maybe a 5 second delay. Awesome picture, no defects some backlight bleed around the edges on a dark screen. I use a small Dell P2214 as a second display.

It worked fine for a couple days with short periods of sleep, but after an overnight sleep, it just won't go into 5k mode. I made no changes except to wake it up. The Z27q screen is blank and eventually displays no signal.

When I connect one DP cable, the monitor will work in 2k mode. But as soon as I connect the second cable, the screen goes blank and eventually a no signal detected warning is displayed and the monitor sleeps. Regardless of tinkering or whether the Dell display is connected or not. Reseting NVRAM and SMC does nothing display wise as far as I can tell. I tried different cable(s) but no love. I guess sometimes one is lucky, sometimes not :( If I ever get it working again, that Mac Pro is not sleeping.

Update: I simply swapped TB ports 1/2 connection, oposite to the recommendations, restarted the Mac Pro and bang... back to 5k ..... It usually takes about 7 seconds longer to display a screen than the smaller Dell.

I have startech brand DP to mini DP cables rated for DP 1.2. Are there better cables worth trying?

Update, sleeping is not a problem now, or shut down. Reversing the DP cables did the trick I guess.

My display works fine, but then again I do have sleep disabled (what's the point of 8-cores sitting idle?) and I power it off at night. With my usage it works fine. I did have a problem a month back where the display would keep losing its connection (it would always come back as 5k though) which was solved by power-cycling the display (unplugging it from the mains). No problems since then.

Edit: I'm using StarTech cables too. They work fine.

Reposting from that other thread:

Can you provide some more detail about how you got this working? I've got a pair of Z27q's that I'd really, really (really, really, really … given that I paid like 2.5k for these freaks) like to get working; but so far, I've only been able to achieve the following:

  1. Display a “no connection” error on the screens (when Port #2 is the only one connected)
  2. Display literally nothing (power-symbol lit up, but backlight obviously off: completely dark, black screen) when Port #2 is connected first, and then Port #1 connected thereafter,
  3. Display a distorted / stretched 4K image, when only a single Z27q is connected, via only Port #1.

I can't even get a single Z27q to display a 5K image, much less two; and I've tried all sorts of patterns for connecting them: port-2 first, port-1 first; on the same Thunderbolt bus, on separate Thunderbolt busses; port-1 to bus-port-2 and port-2 to bus-port-1, and vice versa … oh lordie!

Please send help, I'm desperate. )'=

Should just work on el capitan. They messed it up a little bit on sierra, you might need to adjust the monitor settings for the HP from a normal second monitor to get it to send a normal image. If you said what hardware and OS X version you were on, it would be helpful.

Could this be the reason my sierra install seemed to hang just before the login pop up. The desktop was fuzzy, like the background one gets behind the login pop up. Perhaps the pop up was displayed off screen.....
