HTC 9" Nexus tablet

The 16GB version will cost $399 and the 32GB LTE version will retail for $499. Both devices will have expandable memory.

The expandable sd card will be a moot point as Google has locked down the sd-card situation. Third party apps only work in their sand-box. Third party file managers like ES File Explorer won't let you copy, move, rename files on external sd cards. Considering this is a Nexus product, I doubt they will have their own file manager. They've even stated they will locked this down even more on rooted devices.

The Nividual shield tablet can be had for $300 but the 5 hour battery life is a bit of a disappointment.

I get android smartphones. But man android tablets don't make sense. The app situation is mediocre at best

I'm weird in that I currently use an iPhone and have an Android tablet (Nexus 7) -- seems most people have the reverse of that. My phone is for doing a small number of things quickly on the go, whereas if I'm going to sit down with a tablet I expect more functionality out of it.

I'm probably going to use my tablet more for video playback and I expect it to be able to play various formats without having to worry about transcoding, and also I want it easy to copy video files to it (Android is ideal here with easy file transfer and players like MX Player Pro).

I'm also likely to use a Bluetooth keyboard and use a tablet more like a full fledged computer. I'll also use SSH and maybe remote desktop. Android is ideal because Bluetooth keyboard support is quite good in apps in general and all the Emacs/UNIX key combinations work in SSH (this is not the case in iOS last time I checked due to limitations in the OS preventing apps from recognizing all key combinations -- need to check again in iOS 8, but I haven't read anything indicating things have changed).

I spend a lot of time in web browsers (on all devices), and Chrome works just fine on an Android tablet.

(This is just between iOS and Android -- I unfairly exclude Microsoft devices)

I really like this thing. But after having the HTC Flyer I have no faith in HTC.

You're right! It's really annoying on 4.4 on my SGS5. I have to do workarounds to delete pictures because they're stored directly on my microSD and ES Explorer can't delete them. I have to do it through the Samsung gallery app, which I NEVER use.

I doubt it will look like that, because that's just a blown up nexus 5, but as it's made by HTC then I think you can guarantee it'll look damn sexy, but I think those specs are real and IMO if it does have the Tegra K1 then Nvidia's Shield just lost sales!

Too big for me, I still have my eye on the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact Tablet, but hey if I see one of these Nexus 9's you never know

Like the 4:3 aspect ratio. It changes things and it's a fresh change. It'd be just like the iPad Mini: excellent for web browsing and gaming, not great for video playback.

But I must say I'm extremely happy with my Nexus 7 2013, so I don't see much reason to upgrade. 7 inches has been perfect for me. Never thought I'd like that size that much.

Not sure I understand...was this your wish for the new tablet or what you think it specs out at? The spec sheet I read shows only 2 GB RAM.

I also don't understand why they only include 16 or 32 GB onboard storage on the tablet yet offer 32 or 64 GB in the Nexus 6.

Honestly, I'm disappointed. I wanted something that would make me really think about getting an iPad 2.

I'm not sure what I else I expected really.

These tech websites get some specs wrong in the hurry. I got that info from Android Authority just moments after the announcement. They've since then corrected the article.

Same happened with the screen. Some websites said AMOLED and others IPS.
