We know what HTC's stance on software support looks like.I don't know why everyone is bitching, but isn't one of the greatest OS's in the world, the "open source" and "free" Android capable of just being downloaded and installed on anything?

What an absolute joke of a company they are. Their excuses over their decision are worse.
They are taking the absolute piss with that statement.
Orange UK are still selling it, T-Mobile are, O2 UK....
And it's a dead phone update wise.
I don't blame or fault a single person for not purchasing HTC because of this news.
If software updates are a deal-breaking factor, HTC does not deserve an ounce of your trust or hope.
Perhaps you seem to be forgetting this is a low end- midrange device. I was not surprised support was dropped for it.

The 4.2.2 update for the One begs to differ, sir![]()

If you build it, yes.
Although there are 2008 devices which have 4.1.2 builds available too. There is the "open source" definition for you.
Can it be installed on a non-rooted phone?
Well looks like the HTC One S will indeed be getting a reprieve with 4.2.2 and Sense 5 according to LlabTooFeR who is cunningly accurate with his insider knowledge.
