Can't beat Apple, might as well join them eh? Referring to the new HTC device, the Diamond. While it does seem nice it sorta tells me Apple is a year ahead of it's competitors. It should be very interesting to see what happens with the new update due in June for the iPhone and then the all together new iPhone that is TBD as of now. Very interesting indeed.

HTC is working very hard on improving smartphone UIs. It's nice to see them get together with Google for a custom YouTube app, too. Of course, everyone was disappointed that HTC didn't show off their Android phone as well.

I think it's Apple that will have to take lessons from the up and coming phones out there.

They're much more customizable, and have much more interesting UI front ends... especially their homepages with lots of easily obtained information. Not as simplistic as the iPhone, but the extra depth is part of their appeal.

Many people jailbreak their iPhone in order to customize it. People like to personalize their phones and the information they want to see on them.
 
I had the Touch and yes it was out in Europe before the iPhone was released in the US. But come on, the Touch is nothing like the iPhone. Sorry. And yes I had one. Look at the videos for the new device and while it is nice looking it's pretty much looking like a iPhone clone.

And with the new update in June I think we will be seeing the iPhone much more customize friendly without jailbreaking.

I'd agree. I'd say it's not as cut and dry as "Apple is ahead" or "Apple isn't ahead".
Apple is ahead in *some* areas. And being caught up in others rapidly.
(e.g. No 3G = Behind European market by 2 years).

The Diamond showed a cover flow like music section, accelerometer usage, it's HSDPA HUSPDA. Oh, & it's available in Europe come June.

If Apple does drop the ball on the next iPhone I would probably end up with the Diamond. But that is a big "if" and is doubtful. At least in my mind.
 
First off, HTC makes excellent handsets and their new device certainly looks promising. That said, Apple truly made a revolutionary product by making an easy and clean UI; for a first generation product, I think they did a fantastic job and surely hit the nail on the head.

I'm not so sure who is playing catchup with who, as both devices have their pros and cons, but do keep in mind that Apple has excellent brand recognition and marketing. That very sole reason is why the iPhone has propelled forward.
 
Apple's brilliance was in taking the most common and nicest apps, and building them in with a dirt simple menu system.

Other manufacturers used to let / make the users add all apps. Very PDA-like. Now they've seen the light, and are including Google maps, Opera, TV viewers, etc, so that the masses can use them without knowing much.

The sales advantage now will go to the companies that sell phones without restrictions in all countries, with subsidies, and without requiring iTunes or even a computer to activate and use.

They're bringing eye candy with them. A smaller screen on the Diamond, but a better ppi, and a decent chip running the graphics. Apple has its ecosystem - a very nice closed garden.

Does this make it Nokia's turn to announce some more on the Tube? hehe
 
and am I interested... no, I am not.

There is a company out there that delivers in spades on user experience and satisfaction. It's Apple, and I'm sticking with them.

Thats why Customize and SummerBoard are sure to make their appearances in the iTunes App Store.
 
Rubbish!

Hahahaha another **** ripoff of an Apple product. Why do they even bother? They always turn out ****. Why not just give up and do something worthwhile?
 
Apple will have to keep the pedal to the metal on iPhone development, or it will be overtaken and lose a chance to make inroads in a market that has a lot of growth potential. Something tells me that Apple has put a lot of resources into just that - just watch what iPhone announcements SJ has in store for the iPhone at WWDC!

I think trying to be a competitor for the most sought-after phone is something worthwhile. Do you know anything about business? :rolleyes:

Spoken with a lot of common sense and insight. I agree wholeheartedly. I think Apple had it right with the UI but got it wrong with the customization and locked system.

It didn't take long for competitors to learn that people wanted an iPhone with customization and options, or a device that was just more solid. Now I think Apple is doing the catching up with their app store and 3G. If the competition releases phones that are just as easy to use, and has the software to back it up then the iPhone will become like most other products Apple has released, just another option instead of a must have.
 
HTC phones are, in my experience, very good. And that user interface is a vast leap ahead for the WM crowd.

All the best to them, let's keep Apple on their toes. ;)

Every time any cheesy electronics company tries to rip off an Apple product (which is generally about 4 months after the Apple product appears), they ALWAYS produce a ****ty, gaudy, plastic piece of w8nk based on Windows Mong Edition or something equally crap. Fools!
