I am trying to write some basic html code on Mac osx leopard using text edit, when i put it in safari or firefox it does not work and just displays the code, I know the code is right because it works on a different computer. I don't know too much about it but does anyone know if it is something to do with my internet settings? Also anyone know the code to link to an mp3 or m-peg4 file? Thanks

How did you name the file? You should put ".html" on the end.

Linking to an MP3 is identical, except of course the file should have ".mp3" on the end. Sounds like you're working off of your local computer, but when you put this on a server, the server uses the file extension to discern what mime type to send the data with.

yea, i put html on the file name, the same code with the same file name has worked on the macs at uni and on a pc using the same home internet as me, its just my laptop that doesn't work which is why i thought it might be the computer settings but i don't know what to change, thanks

    Plain text vs rich text

When using Text Edit make sure you're in Plain Text Mode rather than Rich Text mode. That screws up most people. There' a number of free text editors that will you code coloring and offer a better coding experience, such as TextWrangler.
