These are the questions that should be asked. What impact does this have on the longevity of the screen, how long can it sustain this level of brightness etc.

This is most likely the real reason why Huawei's are banned in America because they are 5+ years ahead of Apple and they knew it would outsold everything.
Apple and Huawei have very close market share in China itself (18% vs 15%), their processor is like 6 years behind iPhone and they are still using Android 12 for their OS. their panel is probably built by BOE as well, who is commonly known to be the worst iPhone panel supplier.

apple just sits comfortably and stopped innovation the day the ban was announced.
Apple hardware is no news that is the same basically since forever. Just super tiny updates every 2 or 3 years and 5 years or more behind that company.

Huawei dropped code from Android Open Source Project and the Linux kernel with HarmonyOS Next 5, released 22 October 2024 and first sold installed in Huawei Mate 70. It is totally their own OS now and cannot run Android apps natively. Humorous note: HarmonyOS (鸿蒙; pinyin: Hóngméng) literally translates as “Vast Mist.”

Instead of buying flash-bangs law enforcement could get a bunch of these. Toss one into a room with the screen jacked up and blaring the Macarena and everyone will be blinded and holding their ears.

Out of curiosity, under what conditions does Apple make its display claims? Would be interesting to compare if/when Huawei release their testing conditions.

Android is open source and it's based on a modified version of the Linux kernel as well. EMUI, which is the international ROM for Huawei is based on Android 12.

Great… my first thought was someone busting this out in a dark movie theater to check a notification. You know you’ve run into one of those shameless people in the movies who isn’t aware of themselves in the slightest bit. Probably on speakerphone out in the lobby too. Come to think of it, since brightness equals bragging now, I wonder when we’ll start touting decibels on the built-in speakers.

I doubt anyone needs 8000 nits on a phone, but I would go for that purple on the iPhone Pro. Lol
