I had to drop smartthings and changed over to HomeKit. I had to buy a hue motion detector to keep track of things outside. Well I had the hue motion sensor turning lights off in the daytime. Wit ha lot of programming I got it to only turn outside lights on with motion at night.
But I have had weird things happening. The last few nights I have had the outside lights turn on for a few seconds. Then off. The motion sensor shows no movement and the lights should turn off after 5 minutes.
I have had the all the lights turn on in the middle of the night full blast like they used to with a power blink. Last night it happened I turned them off with the hue switch then they came back on again 30 seconds later.
Any clues whats happening? I turned off the motion sensor to see but it doesn't have control of all of the lights.

Firstly, what app are you using for the automations? Make sure you don’t have overlapping contradicting automations if you’re actively using multiple apps.

Hue and homekit. Hue only in the morning to ramp up the lights in the bedroom. then its all HomeKit. but lights are all on when we are up and home. my automations are pretty simple had the house automated for years. I toggled off the motion detector to see if thats it. its not set to do anything to the inside lights. but it never notifies us either if it detects movement when we are going it sometimes does while home when it is set not to. but all the lights coming on is at random times. first time was like 1 in the morning this time it was 5 then they came on again 20 secodns after I turned them off. I should have waited as the motion detector tends to dim them before they are turned off alll the way.

Ok so the motion sensor isn’t causing it. I’d start by rebooting the Hue bridge and/or your network and home hub.

or it is in a weird way I turned it off hue has a switch in the app. but we started having light issues when we got it so who knows? Never had weird things happen with lights till we went with HomeKit and the hue motion sensor.

FWIW, I’ve been using smart lighting with HomeKit for over three years (Hue and Lutron Caseta) and I’ve never seen this random lights turning on issue.

Just a thought but could it be random power outages? Do you have “Power Loss Recover” turned on?

I have had that changed since they added it. we woke up a few times to power blinks. but no power blinks that I could tell and al the lights are set to stay off when the power blinks.

well last night the lights turned on at 1 am. so I let the dog out and the lights turned off about 30 seconds later. so I checked the hue app and I had switched off the hue motion detector. but it was on again. so I removed it from hue the thing is a even entity it seems. it was nto set to operate any lights but the two outside lights.
