Right after launch I ordered the new BeatsX for store pickup today at Grand Central NYC. I received a confirm and the order processed with a confirmed delivery for today. Apple now has told me, at 7 pm NYT, that they messed up and took too many orders for the inventory they had. They told me I now have to wait for the next shipment, which is ridiculous. Apple should change their name to United since they overbook just the same!

yeah so fail that 1 out of like 2 million people got their order messed up....come on dude, i can understand your frustration but I bet if you would have told them to include overnight on the next ones they would have.

Nope - tried that and they won't. They also said this affects a lot of people and simply they're sorry. Disagree with you, sorry doesn't cut it.

Same thing happened to me. Ordered first thing this morning. Didn't get confirmation till late afternoon that it was ready for pickup. Only to find out that they sold out of their inventory. Nothing they could do they said but reorder and wait for them to ship out a new batch.

If "sorry doesn't cut it," then move along and take your business elsewhere, but my bet is that you simply wanted to whine about it.

Life's tough sometimes, but this isn't even close to one of those times.

Apple messed up things pretty badly so I feel for OP. For some reason the Beats orders were stuck and didn't start to flow to stores until early to mid afternoon. Other threads have people talking about it. I was lucky that I still went to the store and got them off the shelf while they still had them.

Agreed not the end of the world, but it was a large hiccup for a high demand product that already had been delayed for months.

Lesson learned by me was to get to the store at opening regardless until Apple figures out their ordering system problems. Otherwise I would have just ordered them and waited a few days for them to ship.

That's annoying but these things can happen. There should be a standard 10% refund when this happens to cushion the blow. Did they say when the next shipment was coming in?

Teach them a lesson, don't buy any. Or complain to people who can't do a thing for you here.

They're not sure when they'll have them and the price adjustment is exactly the type of thing they should do automatically. Listen, of course this isn't a huge deal but when a company messes up they should own up to it. My experience with Amazon on these issues has been much better. At then end of the day the fail isn't not having the product - it's how the company reacts to its own mistake and IMO in this case Apple failed.

Same thing happened to me, woke up around 6am randomly, decided to check on them. It said available and in stock at GC, ordered them for pickup only to never receive the "ready for pickup" follow up email. It stayed on processing order all day. I went to the store to find out why, only to be told they are sold out.

Apple had issues from the very beginning. I ordered from the app right at 3am eastern time and the app didn't have store pickup or fastest 2/14 shipping available so 2/15 was the only choice. Then at 7:10am I tried Apple.com and it then allowed me to choose store pickup. Fast forward to 10:40am and no notification, so I just went by my local store and picked one off the shelf. They had tons available. Finally at 2:30pm I received the notification for pickup.

If I had waited like I was supposed to, and they had sold my pickup order, I would have been pissed too.

Same thing happened to me at Covent Garden, London store. Someone put stock out on display that was meant to be kept in the back for in-store pickup, so stock was double sold.

All while Tim Cook and his entourage were circling, as he was in London. You'd have thought they'd be on top of their game.

No-one bothered to call me - I had to call them after five hours had gone by with no pick-up notification.

"All we can do is apologise."

I have completely abandoned ordering for pickup, many cannot and I understand that since all have different circumstances.

I will ALWAYS just get the product at the store before I would get a confirmation for pickup. And this forum is loaded throughout whereby folks get their confirmation and don't get the product.

I canceled my order for pick up, saw that another store got them in stock this afternoon and went to pick them up.
