Hello, I'm a high school student and use the the iPad Pro as my main computer. The experience - for the most part - is pleasant.
I bought the Apple Pencil around the same week as my iPad Pro (more then a year ago now). While I'm not an arty person. I use the pencil to revise my kanji and scientific terms and definitions, I've also lately used it with PowerPoint with some creative results.
Just yesterday though, it completely stopped working. At first I wasn't worried, as sometimes it would disconnect from my ipad. But when I looked at my widgets, I found no battery widget for my Apple Pencil or Bluetooth indication that it was even plugged in. Once again, I left it in there for ten minutes thinking it may have ran out of juice. Nothing.
At the moment, I'm not sure who I should approach. I thought you guys may have had the same experience as myself, and a fix for it.
Thank you for your time,

Thank you for your time,

This is the first I've heard of an Apple Pencil crapping out like that. I would take it to an Apple Store, or contact their customer support line. Hopefully they can hook you up with a replacement. Good luck.

Thank you for your time,

First, DON'T PANIC! (Okay, that doesn't look friendly... at least have your towel nearby.)

There are a couple things you can try (your situation has happened to me three times since the initial purchase over a year ago):
- Turn off Bluetooth and turn it back on (this worked for me two of the times)
- Restart the iPad (this worked for me the third time)
- Plug the Pencil into another device (such as an iPhone - doesn't matter if it works with the Pencil or not - another device will charge the Pencil but won't connect to it), then plug it back into the iPad
- Make sure the tip is firmly secured

Failing that, take it into the Apple Store (if you have one near you). If you don't have one near, try calling Apple Support.

I had a similar issue and tried a few things such as forgetting the pencil under bluetooth settings and restarting both my iPad pros. tried charging the pencil overnight. Nothing would work.
When it was plugged into the iPad, the pairing request would pop up and disappear on a regular basis.
Took it into the Apple Store yesterday and they swapped it out for a brand new retail model even though mine was a month out of warranty. I suspect it is a known issue given that they didn't question anything.

I had the same problem. Bring it in for exchange - that's what I did at least. Have your receipt + credit card that made the purchase along, that's what they'll want to look at. It should be under warranty for a year.

If you don't have your receipt, they might still be able to look it up if you know which store / when you bought it.

Mine stopped working suddenly a few months ago while I was writing notes for statistics class. It would still show on the iPad but would not write on the screen. I needed to get a replacement through Apple care after talking with them.

Yes Apple's QC on the Pencil is a little iffy IMO. I suppose this is a first generation product.

Honestly the week while waiting for a replacement was hell. After you've come accustomed to using an iPad 8 hours a day to learn having to switch back to boring old paper that can't define words your reading and easily change highlight colors becomes a hassle. Glad they expidited my shipping to overnight when stock came in, as finals were right after.

I've run into this problem with two different Pencils recently -- can't recall which iOS update version it stared with, but it never happened in the first year of owning the iPad

Anyway, what solved it was going to the Bluetooth settings, deleting the Pencil from the list of paired devices (it may be listed as a generic device) and repairing.

Same issue here. I got the Pencil a year ago November. It started acting flaky about four months ago. I went to the Apple Store and they swapped it immediately. I found my receipt in my emails from Apple. In my case it would charge to 100% in seconds then moments later it was back to 5%.

The newer Pencil works noticeably better than the original. With the same software it seemed to update more quickly drawing smoother lines. I could write smaller letters when taking notes.

A month or two ago I had the same problem mentioned above. It seemed the Pencil had disappeared. At the Apple Store they went to Bluetooth settings and forgot the Pencil. Then we connected it and paired it and it has worked well since then.

Point of interest. The replacement comes in the same size box as the original but with no markings. Also, there is nothing inside but the Pencil. No female adapter, no extra tip.

Just out of curiosity, are you on the 10.3 beta?

I had an issue similar to yours, and unpairing and repairing it worked.
