So recently (not sure exactly when, but ios7 has been the only thing I've changed recently) I've had an issue where I'm having emails disappear from my gmail. Earlier today I had an email, read it on my phone, and moved it to my gmail trash. Today, when i logged on my PC, I wanted to see it again so I went to the trash and it wasn't there. I thought that was very odd. So then I went back to my phone to make sure I wasn't dreaming. Sure enough the email was there in the trash, but as soon as the phone refreshed, it, along with other emails were gone. And now I can't retrieve it (and others). Just lost in space. Could this be some kind of sync problem between iOs7 downloading messages and GMail? I've used GMail for many years and have never had a hiccup like this before where I've lost an email. Has anyone seen this? Have suggestions for where to start looking for a fix?

That worked, though I still don't know what folder the mail disappeared to. Thanks.

Are you using the built in mail app? Check settings -> Mail, Contact, calendars -> Your gmail Account -> Account -> Advanced. In the 2 sections below:

(1) Mailbox Behaviors: make sure Deleted Mailbox is is the Trash folder On the server and not on my iphone

(2) Move Discarded Messages into: make sure you have selected deleted mailbox
