I placed my ear against the keyboard of my MBP (See Signature).

I noticed a faint, regular hum. Regular meaning that the sound was very uniform. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Is this normal behavior?

It's your hard-drive whirring. It's normal.

I'm honestly taken back that people ask questions like this while having a MBP i7 or a machine that expensive... you'd think you'd do some research before dropping multipel thousands of dollars....

Anyways... yes... your HDD/fans working. You're fine.

But it's shiny and made by Apple, no need for research.

7200RPM drives 'chatter' and 'buzz' a little more than 5400RPM drives. If it has started making a different noise or it has gotten louder, your hard drive may be about to fail.
