What a waste of money. He could have used that money to save humanity or eliminate world hunger. I feel really bad for the people working at Twitter and they have to deal with Elon. The fact it’s around Thanksgiving and holidays time makes it worst. I believe in Karma and Elon should too. 🧿🪬
That seems the wrong take, from my perspective.

Some people are being fired because they‘re intentionally antagonizing their boss. They deserve no sympathy. Others are people who politicized their jobs. They’re paying the price now, rightfully. Others are getting laid off because Twitter wasn’t profitable and was a disaster business-wise. That’s sad, but that’s life.

Whatever amount of money Elon spent on Twitter would not have “saved” mankind. Does anyone even understand what money is and what gives it its value? This is not about politics, this is about simple reality. We can’t deal in fantasy just because our rhetoric makes us sound virtuous.

So politics in first sentence then no politics in second one, got it. After 2 weeks of chaos with firing rehiring, then a childish macho ultimatum seems like quite a few employees got their Blue Check Mark on Quitter. Now lets see if Musk try’s to weasel on the severance offer.

Hell even if he used the money in his existing companies by providing lunches, that he is so against. Or even engineer a car without panel gaps.

What do I know?

I was originally excited when I heard musk was taking over twitter, I thought the company would head in a better direction. Now, I feel that musk is using his new power much too harshly. The overall idea behind his actions are mostly good, but i feel like he is just firing people and stuff just to prove that he can. Hopefully he calms down soon

Y’all are funny. This is how you rebuild a company and make it a whole new successful thing. Just relax. It’s obviously going to be a transitory period. Watch and see for sure. Good stuff.
I agree in a way, this needs to happen in this form or another.

Twitter -- BEFORE Elon was forced to buy it -- was in 1 billion dollar debt, and had no way of paying it. Zero. In light of its business management and models it was already in deep trouble. It's no wonder the board and execs wanted to force Elon to buy it so they get to bail on all that debt and exit with a golden parachute.

That means the existing company and model were always going to go bankrupt if it keeps running things the way it's been running.

Frankly, it's going to be hard to pay off that debt when twitter never really made a lot of money for the company even with all those people using it.

Hard work is fine if you are rewarded for it. That is the part I don't hear about. If he is just expecting hard work that is above and beyond...to just get a normal paycheck. Well, makes sense why people would leave. However, if they are highly paid with great benefits, a little handwork on a project is okay.

I believe at Telsa, stock options and such that were based on the success of the company were given. Plenty of Telsa employees I think got rich on that. I think. I could be wrong. Although Twitter is now private, if equity is given for hard work, then it's find to ask people to work hard. Or heavily bonus employees. Depends on their model for compensation and plan for the company. Of course, if you get none of that, no reason to work crazy hard so the Elon and his investors are the only ones reaping the rewards.

Lastly, sometimes even money doesn't mean people want to work like that. I mean some might already have enough money or it's simply not that important to them. Life work balance is important to some. I don't think Elon has balance from my narrow outside view on him. It doesn't seem like he spends much time with this family. But, again, I don't really know and can judge him. Maybe I'm only hearing of him always working because that is the public. But, when not, he spends time with this family.

Respectfully, that’s a sheepish take. This is 100% about politics and “revenge”. The only reason this is a big deal is over one man and whether he will be allowed back on the platform. Everything else is just peanuts.

I have been part of multiple companies were the CEO ran this same playbook. Some work and others fail. But, yes, wait and see. No guarantees.

I couldn't care less what happens to twitter. It's Elon's private sandbox now and he can do whatever he wants in it.
Ya'll stand here and watch it burn just don't burn your eyebrows.
I bought into the stock in 2017 and made some money and now I'm out.
I'm waiting on my final payout to clear my broker and I'm running to the bank. Thanks Elon.

Hmmmm...does this sound like Elon?

"In the final hours ahead of the deadline, Musk reportedly attempted to convince employees to stay. Bloomberg says that key staff were brought into meetings and Musk also walked back his in-office work demands. He had said that all employees needed to work from the office 40 hours a week, but today he said that working from home was allowed with monthly in-person meetings and managerial approval."

Just wondering if he is being flexible.

Sounds like him.

Desperation.

The sound of a man about to be on the hook for a 44$ billion dollar fiasco.

Apart from the obvious downside of a lot of hardworking people losing their jobs, there are no other issues I see in Twitter failing from here. I just hope they take other social media firms with them. Social media has done so much damage to our lives. If it is to succeed it needs a total reset where we start again and think about what version 1.0 taught us. Like "bullied kids can't even escape when they aren't at school" and "anything which requires nuance beyond 288 characters is too complicated so let's just pretend it's all simple and anyone saying otherwise is lying to you." All that and so much more, just so we can send each other pictures of what we had for lunch... There are some genuinely good social media people out there, but they are drowned out in a sea of vile noise. We should look for a way to steer the good ones to safer shores and let the rest drown...

“One day I’m going to tell my children I quit a job paying me $250k a year because my boss demands I show up for work. How dare he! No free gourmet chef prepared food either!”

If the employee at hand is a programmer, they’ll find another job before tomorrow morning.

I find it interesting the dichotomy between “shut up and take the money” and “I don’t care about money, I’m trying to make a point”.

I am actually getting emotional about the current Twitter situation. In Japan, we* use Twitter as our main social media platform besides messaging services like LINE. You can think of Twitter as a miniature town square unique to everyone. We talk about games and TV shows, we post drawings and art, we meet and make new friends from different prefectures, and we share information about earthquakes and major accidents. Twitter has basically become not separable from our daily life.

And now, here comes the eternal globe saviour Mr Musk. He stepped into the major part of my life and started messing with it. Firing basically everyone in the Japan branch, adding the confusing blue tick for those who want fake fame online, and now kicking out even more people from his team and treating those who stay behind as slaves.

You can describe the current Twitter as your BFF lying in bed in a hospital, struggling to even stay alive and might probably pass away at any time; yet the crazy doctor Frankenstein comes in and started stabbing your BFF with a scalpel, telling you that he is just trying to save your BFF from hell. Imagine that hopeless feeling and anger you would possess at that moment. That's how I feel right now.

Sorry for writing such a long objective reply, probably will not comment on posts about Twitter anymore. I just wanted to spit my own thoughts out. Gonna head out and have a laugh at ridiculous iPhone rumours instead.

* I am not Japanese, but I engage in the online Japanese community more than my own. I basically treat myself as one of them.

Apparently Twitter employees were told (with no explanation as to why) that all office buildings are closed and not to come back to until Nov 21. And employees responsible for critical infrastructure and keeping the service running have quit. I get the feeling even people who were cheering Musk on (because they thought all he’d do is nuke the content moderation teams) are like WTF.

Elon fired and then personally called the guy who ran the card system to come back because they are locked out. They don’t have the admin password to the card system.
