I'm in the '$379 is cheap camp'. We put $400+ Casablanca fans in our last house and they were brilliant, silent on low and like standing in a gale on high. Our current rental has some crappy Home Depot offerings and they're barely worth turning on. I want Big Ass Fans in my next home!Ceiling fans are affordable under $100. Really nice ones are up to $200. >$300 is really expensive for a ceiling fan but for a "connected" fan that's the first (or close enough) to market it's not a bad price.
For all the comments about laziness etc... I think people are missing the point. For me home automation like this isn't so much to do with controlling everything from the sofa, but about efficiency. A smart fan can turn on and off as needed and working in conjunction with smart thermostats etc... can be used to maintain a comfortable environment with minimum wasted energy.
