I have been putting off the watch updates because it has to be on the charger and when i put it on the charger i have to unlock it. What??!!
So dumb!!!!
The battery level is at 100%. I just charged it. It still wants me to place the watch on the charger. What..???
Forget it. I will update next weekend. That’s what i said last month. LOL

I’ve never had to unlock my watch on the charger to do a update. Just start the update and then when you next charge it, it will install it automatically after it reaches over 50% charge.

At least you can update yours, I can't update my AW.

The storage is full, and even with deleting everything possible, I still cannot update because I need another 100MB to free up.

Apple really screwed up the update process on the S3.

Just let it update automatically by putting your watch on charger overnight.

maybe that's what I will do on weekend.
During the week, I put it under my pillow so that the vibration alarm will wake me up in the morning.

Thank you!

I can't remember when the AW I have has automatically updated. It is turned on, but it just has never done it. I have always ended up seeing the pip on the Watch app, and just doing it. I even let it go a few days a couple updates ago, and I finally had to just do the update manually. I'd agree that the AW update dance is hitting a sour note. I thought I heard that Apple 'fixed' the AW update process so that the watch could update without an iPhone. Apparently not?

What do people with an AW and no iPhone do to get watch updates? Connect it to a computer?

Well, you can't have an Apple Watch without an iPhone (well.... you can, but you can't use it)
But if you have an iPhone and it's not in reach, there's a Software Updates menu in the watch settings somewhere.

And if you choose that, it says the iPhone has to be within range. I thought there was a way to own an AW without an iPhone. Maybe not. I do remember hearing about a 'fixed AW update process' where the watch could do updates itself. It still doesn't...

Ah OK, didn’t realize that…. never tried it
