Storm surge doesn't care about the category of a hurricane. The potential for catastrophic flooding is still there.
I know. Been through a cat 1 in the Carolinas before and a typhoon in Asia. But the press is having a bit more glee with people’s potential losses and tragedies than they should and I can see the tricks of language they’re using to not lose the momentum of hype they built up when it was threatening the coast as a Category 4.

We’re relying on a network of friends to get a less sensationalized picture of what’s going on. It’s still not pretty. But the tone is very different from the tone in a lot of the media.

Boeing already evacuated the flyable 787s from their Charleston plant about two days ago.

I can see a Sandy situation all over again. A big storm slowing down with multiple high tide cycles. The storm surge will be a huge problem.

It's interesting how the storm tracking goes north after its foray into the Carolinas, moving up the Appalachians. I'm guessing we'll see some pretty high rivers down here in south central Virginia early next week.
