I prefer the rounded edges. But I love how my new phone works so far. Fast and zippy with decent battery life. And I like how the Apple silicone case covers the bottom.

My last experience with a new phone was the XS Max - tried 2 and couldn’t get either of them to work for me. Connectivity was so bad that I ended up returning and paying full price for a new X which had been out over a year.

I definitely feel the difference, and it’s not as comfortable on the edges, but it’s not actually painful. My palms are wide, but my fingers are on the shorter side, and I have painful wrists and hands, thanks to illness, so this is a big issue for me, too.

I’m not a fan of cases, but that might be a solution for you. A silicone or leather case might be just the ticket.
What about a thin tpu case and a pop socket?

Something designed to be held in the hand and has angular metal edges. OP points out that it’s uncomfortable, for him even painful, and he gets ridicule. Even MR’s reviewer points out that it’s uncomfortable. I know we’re not supposed to question the mother company, but you’d think comfort of use would be a consideration when designing these things.

It was the same with the old squared off iPhones. Everyone was in love with the smooth edges cause they were tapered and comfy.

I honestly hated the 5s and then the SE. I couldn't get used to square sides. Even in a smaller device. My 11 Pro Max feels perfect in my hand. Though of course I need two hands with it as it's quite big, I'd still prefer that over the square edges any day.

After a couple weeks, I’m starting to use the apple silicone case. My fingers were hurting after long usage on YouTube.

I know it’s just my first day with the new iPhone 12 Pro and I love the pacific blue color but the squared sides really hurts my hands. It feels super uncomfortable to me. I hope I get used to it.
Went through exactly the same thing. Pretty to look at, painful to hold—especially coming from a 6S. This is not an ergonomic design by any stretch.

An Apple leather case has pretty much solved the problem for me though. It softens the edges and seems to make the phone feel lighter in the hand. Granted, I’m still occasionally shocked by its weight when I pick it up off the table, but in use it’s a lot more comfortable. Much easier to use in one hand, too.

I was initially strongly considering switching to a Mini despite my devotion to the Tele lens, but this case (and a few days to acclimatize) has made the added weight/bulk of the Pro a lot easier to live with.

No your not alone I returned my iPhone 12 pro I had the exact same problem I’m a guy but I have small hands insert joke here.

I swapped for the 12 mini which is an improvement on comfort but still the sharp edges dig into the palm of my hand even with a case on. I think it must be across the 12 series this year I might even return the mini. I am noticing the comfort as I have two phones the 12 mini and the pixel 3 my old phone. I don’t get any pain with holding my pixel or any other iPhones I’ve owned in the past

Somethings up!

I have the mini and would say I have small hands, and the edges of the phone don’t dig into my palm. It sounds like you are holding the phone too tight in your hand.

Everyone so bitchy in this thread. Are we on Reddit?

and yes i find the edges also super uncomfortable on my 12 Pro Max and I used the XS Max before. However, that’s what thin clear cases are for

I have a case on my 12 Pro Max and have no issues with the edges hurting my hand. Plus, I have a popsocket that helps with holding the phone easier. You can make it work, you just have to choose to make it work.

I have the same problem. I’ve even tried cases. It’s super frustrating. My issue is I get hand strain I just can’t seem to adapt to the flat edges. My hands seem to hate it.

What’s the thin case model you recommend?

I have had every iPhone since the very first one and upgrade every year. I have the 12 Pro max right now and it hurts my hand after prolonged use as well. It is the squared edges in this years model. There have been other models in the past with squared edges but they were not as big and heavy as the current models.

But I have cases that helps.
Here are the ones I use
