Hyper today announced the launch of two new high-powered accessories designed for Apple devices, including the HyperJuice 245W GaN Desktop Charger and the HyperJuice 245W USB-C Battery Pack. The accessories are available for purchase as of today following a successful Kickstarter campaign.

Hyper says that its HyperJuice 245W GaN Desktop Charger is the world's smallest 245W GaN charging option. It includes four 100W (max) USB-C power delivery ports for charging multiple devices at one time. Up to four 60W laptops can be charged at once, or two 100W laptops can be charged alongside accessories like the iPad Pro and iPhone.

The 245W of power is split between the four charging ports depending on what's plugged in, and for those who prefer to charge on the go, there's also a new HyperJuice 245W USB-C Battery Pack.

The HyperJuice 245W USB-C Battery Pack is airline safe, offering a 100Whr/27000mAh capacity and two 100W max USB-C ports and two 65W max USB-C ports for charging up to four devices at one time. There's a built-in OLED screen that provides details on remaining capacity and the charging power of each port, plus there's a 100W input for recharging the battery pack in approximately an hour.

Hyper's 245W GaN USB-C charger is available from the Hyper website for $200. The 245W USB-C Battery Pack is also available from the website for $250.

I recently picked up a 200 watt GAN charger and it was HEAVY. While it's nice to have a lot of wattage on these chargers to charge multiple devices at a time, it comes with that weight cost. These things are getting heavy enough that they're barely portable. If this 245 watt charger is anything like the 200 watt one I just got, this one is probably as heavy as a brick.

245 watt adapter... Why? I'm really asking. For multiple people maybe but how would one person use that much wattage?

Also I suspect that battery won't last long with a 245 watt power draw. I'm not sure if there would be any advantage over two smaller batteries to charge different devices. Maybe for some people

I know Hyper catches a lot of flack, but I backed their original HyperJuice and it’s been great. I don’t use it a ton, but it’s great when I need it.

I want 400W. Is full power, all ports, all the time too much to ask?

Example issue: 4 developers running 4 2019 i9 MacBook Pros in a conference room, fans spinning full blast on all of them - a couple people plug their iPhones in to charge - and suddenly one or two of the laptops say "Not charging" and the battery drains. This happens frequently and is annoying.

1.28 lbs and 1.68 lbs respectively for the 200 watt and the 245 watt.

But still no PD 3.1 (140W) support, Anker's new GaN Prime is the only one I know of that sports this. I am less concerned with the edge case of "I need all 140W right now" on my MBP 16" (the load is rarely this high, and 100W is usually fine), but on battery packs, the higher the output, the less thermal losses, so even though 60W or 100W will do, pumping out power at 140W to charge/power the MBP 16" makes that 100Wh pack last 5-10% longer.

Pulling electrons at 28V @ 5A vs 20V @ 5A...that works out to an appreciable difference in an airline-safe/allowed 100Wh max pack.

This business of adding up all the ports and calling that the "Watt rating" of a pack or charger that's happening in this industry hides important details like this.

Off topic I suppose, but I’m still waiting impatiently for the UK release of the Anker 736 mains charger :(

These definitely exist but not in an airline friendly package (where 100Wh capacity is the max).

You should/could look into portable power stations, because even if a 100Wh pack has the ports, what's the use when you can give each connected device 25Wh or whatever (rounding error), and that's not even reality as you'll lose WAY more in thermal losses in a small form factor power bank.

If you need airline-safe you're going to have to carry 4x 100W packs, really...and that's not a technical issue, that's a regulatory issue in nearly any country.

given that my two 100w chargers literally melted, and the same happened to many 65w chargers from this kickstarter. i wouldn't touch a 245w one unless i wanted a nuclear meltdown at my house.

These might be handy for power outages so you can keep working or maybe for certain kinds of professions that take people out into the field where there's no power outlets I guess. At a certain point though, why not just get a Jackery?

100 watt hours is the limit for airlines. So that's why a lot of batteries are at or below this size, they are built more for airline travel than road trips or camping.

One computer (96 watt ?)
One iPhone (5-20watt)
Another iPhone (5-20 watt)
iPad (18 watt)

What’s that… oh… 154…..

Okay maybe throw another MacBook in there. Haha 😂

So …… I have these and haven’t opened them yet (plan on doing a YouTube review on them- work has been insane so I’m very delayed here)

Hyper does make good stuff, some have had issues but I’ve been lucky thus far. I have an old Hyper USB-C dock with 3 USB-A, a MicroSD/ SD reader, power passthrough (albeit very slow but it was first gen USB-C, so forgivable), gigabit Ethernet, HDMI out & a Qi charger. And it’s been flawless (unlike 2 of my Apple branded USB-C to HDMI which both died within 3 months of owning them)

So remember the above when I say the next part.

Their PR is TRASH. From end to end, trash. There’s at least 200 complaints on the Indiegogo for this exact campaign. Including me. That being said, I knew the following:

- Component shortages are what they are
- Funding anything through a crowdsource is a risk.

And all this was understood. At first I was defending them in their comment section that component shortages and Indiegogo being risky is something you take on. Even then, they made it near impossible to keep defending them. Here were the main issues:

- Their lack of communication. All of us echoed the sentiment that they should have just updated us with all the difficulties they faced, when they were facing it. Instead they put out a ton of promises that were unfulfilled. And when asked about the status, they just wouldn’t answer- and if they did, they’d take a few weeks and even then, the answers were super vague.

- And then the biggest offender. Their campaign updates. For those who don’t know, when you fund stuff on Indiegogo, there’s a section called “updates” which is where they update the backers on the status of things and if they’re on track or if they ran into roadblocks. When they update this, if you opt to (I think it’s on by default) we are all sent an email with the subject being: “Update #x: 245w Gan Charger & USB-C battery bank” with the body of the post. So while we were already annoyed by the lack of communication, they would use that TO PROMOTE NEW CAMPAIGNS AND PRODUCT LAUNCHES. And then we would all collectively say: “we’ve been asking for a real status update and instead you’re using the update of the campaign to push new stuff and not answer us, while your last promise was unfulfilled”

So, again, most of us are understanding of the shortages and also of crowdfunded campaigns being a risk. But the issue is, the initial delivery was Nov/early December for early backers like myself who ordered it back in mid-October. When the delays started, they would take a good month to even update us after the delivery time slipped, BY A MONTH. And sometimes, after a month or an unfulfilled promise, the next “update” they would post would be something like: “Update #x: 245w Gan Charger & USB-C battery bank: New Campaign! Triple Display USB-C dock”. Again, with no answer or real update. Imagine seeing that in your email while waiting to hear anything, having waited over a month since the last update / unfulfilled promise.

I got mine about 2 weeks ago. And the thing is, if the company was way more transparent about their issues and did their due diligence to at least update us more often with real statuses including their issues, I wouldn’t even be mad that it was 10 months after I backed it.

What makes me disappointed, is that I recommended Hyper to so many because I believed in their brand up until this. Now I’m very skeptical to do so. I hope for their sake that they can remedy this lack of real PR because I’m sure that a LOT of people lost their brand loyalty over this. And I’m not one to openly hurt anybody’s livelihood but someone should be reprimanded or even fired for this. It was a disaster.

There’s also a weird email exchange I had with them about a partnership for review items, but I’m saving that for my video. It just reinforces how bad the PR is.

That being said, I hope these are good. May try them today or tomorrow. I’m skeptical as well because I’ve already seen some reports of issues, the glaring one being that a MacBook Pro was bricked immediately on plugging the charger in. So I won’t be testing that, I need my MacBook for work.

I hope anybody ordering these has a way better experience than I, and so many others did.

Who cares if it can do 245W; it's only 27000 mAh capacity. It'll create more heat and more energy loss.

I bought a 245W desktop charger for one of our office meeting rooms and it works great. It won't charge 4 16" MBPs at full power but at 60W each port that is enough for multi-hour active coding & debugging war room sessions.

If these devices keep charging faster and faster I'm probably going to need to upgrade the wiring and/or breakers in my 10 year old home, lol. Especially with electric cars becoming popular. I have two slots left in my box for when I run a 220 line to my garage for an electric car.

I've seen rumors that Nvidia's upcoming 4090 GPU will pull 600W. I'm pretty sure the first PC I built 20 years ago when I was a kid had a 300W power supply for the entire system. This is double that just for a single component!

MacRumors should be ashamed of themselves for giving Hyper publicity, again.

Hyper makes dangerous products. Do not buy them.

Someone's house is going to burn down and I hope it weighs heavily on anyone who promoted this terrible company.

Agreed. I had bought 3 one of their stackable chargers and had one of them melt down and start smoking. Luckily I was home and next to it when it happened.
