HyperDrive GEN2 USB-C Hubs With Up to 18 Ports Now Available

This is beyond ridiculous. This should be frontpage news, to be honest.

I was using that stuff from hell with my MacBook Pro 13" 2020. The first problem I had is DisplayPort on TS3+ not working, at all. No I'm not saying MST but only one single low resolution (1650*1050) 8 years old 22-inch Dell. I replaced 3 cables and nothing works. So I bought a type-C to DVI and connected to uplink, and guess what ? Not working. Then I bought a type-C to VGA, it worked, partially. When I disconnect and reconnect, it failed to detect external monitor as well, and I've to unplug and replug.

I contacted the support and after 3 days they told me to update the firmware. So I did. And DisplayPort worked, but Uplink to DVI and VGA is still not fixed. And even worse, since I updated the firmware, all the USB ports will go dead when I disconnect and reconnect it from the MacBook. And if I disconnect it again when USB ports are dead, I'll get 100% Kernel Panic in 10 seconds. Support guys confirmed this and insist that they "only" receive problems from MacBook 13" 2020 owners but no 16" owners. And they said it will "probably" be fixed after Big Sur.

So I dumped that stuff from hell and get a Targus. And it works smoothly so far.

The whole box is connected to a computer via USB-C. How much bandwidth does this provide to power all those ports somewhat simultaneously?

I have the 12 port .....you don't want it ....you still need your OG power cable if you run a 16" mac ...and the type c port doesn't like my Belkin type c cable from my monitor so I just connect it to my computer ....so basically I use the dock for a card reader 😒

I see absolutely no reason to buy this over the Caldigit T3. Am I missing something?

Not only is the Caldigit far superior, it includes the 185 w power supply that hyper charges $45 for.

Nah 20 i isn't even enough. I'd wait until they get 50 ports. I want this to be future proofed with modular ports so I can remove USB-A with USB-D comes out. I want 10 GbE copper AND fibre (and whatever replaces it), maybe even wireless ports too. PS/2 ports. IEEE-1284 ports. Firewire. Because I want to hook up my old bubble jet from back in the day and lets see, SCSI, MIDI/game ports would be cool.

I ordered this through the kickstarter/ indiegogo campaign.

I can absolutely state that this dock is garbage.


To rid myself of this port replicator, I decided to sell it on FaceBook.

• No included Power Adapter ($99)
• Ethernet Port on Mac has issues
• Does not support Dual Independent

got it on kickstarter and i'm very disappointed. my monitor is flickering every 5-10sec, their response was "we are sorry, reset SMC". that didn't help and I have a paperweight worth close to $100. i know people have more expensive paperweights, but this is a huge disappointment after their amazing 100w charger.

i also had similar issues. I will be avoiding this brand in the future.

Hyperdrive products are quite amazing and I’m glad they’re being recognized here.

No they are not amazing at all. They are complete garbage. I wasted good money on a paper weight that has terrible compatibility with MacBooks.

The chips generate heat, that’s why they have a larger design, for a small heat sink to be put in. The ports themselves are built for this very scenario, one cable docking.

Ah got it. I guess it really is the port to rule them all.

Accessory brand Hyper today announced the official launch of its new 18-port HyperDrive GEN2 18-port hub, which joins the recently released 12-port and 6-port versions.

The new GEN2 HyperDrive USB-C hubs offer twice the speed of Hyper's previous-generation hubs, with 4K 60Hz display compatibility, 10 Gbps USB 3.1 Gen 2 data transfer speeds, 300 MB/s MicroSD/SD 4.0 slots, and up to 100W power delivery to a host computer.

The GEN2 hubs raised over $1.5 million through crowdfunding earlier this year, but they are all now available for general purchase with the 6-port version priced at $99.99, the 12-port version at $149.99, and the new 18-port version at $199.99.

The 18-port version includes two USB-A 10 Gbps ports, one USB-A port with 18W QuickCharge support, two USB 2.0 ports, one USB-C 10 Gbps port, a USB-C Power Delivery port with 100W charging power for connecting to the host computer, two 4K 60Hz HDR HDMI ports, one DisplayPort 4K 60Hz port, a Gigabit Ethernet port, SD and Micro SD UHS-II card readers, digital coaxial and optical Toslink audio, a 3.5mm audio jack, a VGA port, and a DC power port for driving the hub.

I like the 6 port and wish that it had a couple of other options on it. The 12 port is a bit overkill for my purposes. However, These are new products and hopefully I am within the guidelines here to provide this link.

These days, I am learning to pay a bit more attention to early or first production of items and the feedback they get. However, I admit to (same site) have opted for a couple of other items that too could be hit and miss.
