Become a MacRumors Supporter for $50/year with no ads, ability to filter front page stories, and private forums.
And again I post a Hyper Warning:

Do not buy their products. I have 3 different Hyper products - none of them working as they should/advertised. And Hyper just stops responding to support requests when they realise their products are "broken" straight out of the factory.

I do not know why MacRumors keeps promoting the Hyper products.

Is it paid-for "advertising" in disguise and without a disclaimer?

Also, if you back any of their crowdfunding projects they will continue to use the backer update feature to send you spam about every single product launch for the rest of time. Kickstarter from 7 years and they still do it despite every update having no responses except people asking them to stop

What do you recommend for M1 max pro to drop in and use in the office with dual monitors?
OWC (MacSales.com) is a good spot to find them. I previously had one but with the new M1 Max Pro, I'm waiting for a 160W one to be available. Right now it looks like they top out around 100W.

Price isn't bad

But what is any different about this than the past couple of years?

Watch out for the 100W charger. That is not safe for your devices.

It has blown 2 Raspberry Pi's for me. Apart from that when you charge something on USB-C like an iPad - and then have something charging on USB-A - once the USB A demand drops - the power supply actually shuts off all ports and restarts them again. So for some connected A devices - would drive the power supply into turning the USB-C on/off every 30 seconds. (With iPad "gong" every time power is reconnected)

So I have now. blocked the A ports - and only use it to power 1 device at the time. What a waste of power supply.
Yikes, will definitely watch out for that. So far I haven’t had these issues happen with mine, so I may have gotten one from a different batch (bought on amazon rather their kickstarter). These kinds of issues are inexcusable for a $100 charger.

You don't even get two headphone jacks. The MacBook Pro's headphone jack is on the left side and this covers the high impedance jack and replaces it with a regular one. So in essence you gain an extra USBC port, a USB-A port, extra HDMI, MicroSD slot, and ethernet. I really don't know who this is for. If I was using this at home there are a lot of better docks and hubs with more ports for less.
I didn't know that it covers the headphone jack, also I think it uses both USBC ports, so you don't even get an extra. It's not a dock, just a dongle without the dangle.

You’re right. I though the left side only had one USB C port and MagSafe but there are two. That just makes it even more useless.

It’s only a matter of time before that changes because the USB 4.0 spec includes Thunderbolt 4. Therefore, any devices that are USB4 certified will support Thunderbolt.
Isn’t that an “optional” feature of USB4? Otherwise, that means a simple charger for, let’s say, a vibrator would require the implementation of TB4.

The USB4 specification is based on the Thunderbolt 3 protocol specification. Support of interoperability with Thunderbolt 3 products is optional for USB4 hosts and USB4 peripheral devices, and is required for USB4 hubs on their downward facing ports and for USB4-based docks on their downward and upward facing ports. On the other hand, support for USB4 is required in Thunderbolt 4.

Have to disagree with the comment about "don't buy this stuff". I've not done the kickstarter approach so I can't comment on that, but I have used a HyperDrive usb hub as a macbook docking station both at home and at work for the last three years, and recommended the same device to a number of colleagues. That thing has been rock solid and reliable and one of my favorite things about macs finally switching to usb-c. I hate having to disconnect a number of cables every time I move my mac and their hub is effectively a reliable docking station, I thoroughly recommend it.

I am still waiting for something I backed from Hyper. Multiple shipping delays. but then they keep posting new product backing ads to backers who haven’t received last product yet. They also tried to sell “upgrades” to be MgSafe certified, which is extra money AND further delayed shipping.

I suggest those interested in their products not to use kickstarter or indiegogo. This is their business model: they charge you early and dont ship for a long time. And you don’t know how well these products will actually work. if you really want it, doesn’t hurt to wait and see how they are reviewed. Plus, there are other companies that sell similar products that don’t play this game with you.

Don't participate in their IndieGogo. I'm still waiting for the charger that MacRumors was pushing back in October.

Supporting these guys really makes MacRumors look bad. I no longer trust them based on their support of HYPER.
