I keep reading here and there on forums like this one that HT is problematic on the new line of Mac Pros. Is there any actual hard evidence (i.e. benchmarks, or at least something from a reputed reviewer) for this?

I remember similar issues being brought up when Intel launched HT technology in early 2000's, but assumed everything has been resolved in this re-launch of the technology.

Has anyone switched off HT on their MP, if so, why?

After reading that thread, I get that there's performance issues when stacking plugins in Pro Tools. This may or may not be due to actual hardware or kernel level issues with HT ... so is not the silver bullet I was looking for. But definitely good to know, thanks.

Hmmm, is there hard evidence that "HT is problematic"? Yes there is. Can you find it? You should be able to yes! Now to define problematic... Random unexplained crashes: Yes, but if it's random and unexplained then how are we expected to produce "hard evidence"? Occasionally slower with HT on than off: Yes, but it's at least faster more than not. And evidence of these things "on the new line of Mac Pros": No probably not. I think they may be too young for that. Search around though. You may be able to find something.
