I am thinking about getting a Kingston HyperX 3K for a boot drive in my 2006 mac pro. Reason being I am cheap and I found it on sail on tigerdirect but I have found good reviews but I thought I would ask what your opinions are.
I would not get it. I would get the big toshiba 512gb ssd that used to be a 1300 dollar option in the 2010 mac pro. owc has it for 279 . it is the oem model 1 year warranty. well worth the sale price. plus it is a sata ii which tends to work better in a mac pro
The HyperX drive should be ok, it is a normal Sandforce drive. But you can also look for a Samsung 830, which is fast and reliable and don't compress data, which means it has constant performance.
