Probably not. I feel the current iPhone 5 width is a bit too small for comfortable web browsing. Make the device a little bit bigger and give it a full body display and I would be very interested.

I think Apple left a lot on the table when it came to the iPhone 4/5 design. Oneplus X is a good example what could have been if Apple had made the iPhone 5 about iPhone X size physically with a 5" 16:9 screen. So take something like that, shrink it down a bit and give it a tall display and you're good.

The iPhone 6/7/8 design was a bust for me because it had a massive bezel even when it was released. Didn't even bother looking at iPhones for years because of that.

I’d have to see it in person to give an honest opinion. I’m not a SE fan because of the screen size and touchid but, the physical size of the phone is fine.

I already have an SE as a backup, but would buy instantly if it had the bezel-less design and increased the screen size while keeping the physical dimensions similar to the SE..

I would. What I would do is switch Sim card for using my larger iPhone when I want to and then a revamped SE for the portability at times. That’s what I did in the past with the 2016 SE and my larger iPhone Plus.

A10, A11 or A12?

Better question would be whether you'd be willing to pay $750 for an A12 version (single rear camera)? There's no way Apple's putting FaceID in a $500 phone this year.

There are apparently 3 iPhone 7 based SKU's floating out there still. I am expecting an update to the SE, with iPhone 7 internals, but I am not sure it's going to be like the X generation. I expect slightly tweaked design with wireless charging.

I was just out for a quick walk and allowed myself some time to think about Apple's current pricing tiers.

Did a quick spreadsheet and found the following.

Apple prices Storage RAM at 78 cents per GB. It mainly holds true for all upgrades except on the 7/7plus where they rip you off a little (charging $100 for an upgrade worth $75).

Every processor generation bump is about $100.

A screen size bump is worth $100.

The change from LCD to OLED is $250.

Going from TouchID to FaceID (aka X-style) is $50.

NOTE - I had to consider the Xr as a small sized screen for this to work smoothly.

OK for those wanting a smaller X-style phone with an A11 chip, you can either build from an 8 or come down from an Xr.

Build up method

iPhone 8/64 - $600
TouchID to Face ID - $50

Total $650

Strip down method

iPhone Xr/64 - $750
Processor decrease - minus$100

Total $650

I guess if you want to consider the mythical SE-2 as an even smaller screen, take another $100 off and you end up at $550, so maybe it isn't too much of a stretch for Apple to price at $500 .. maybe put the base at 32GB.

With all that said, I doubt Apple would do this as it would eat into the sales of higher margin phones. Perhaps they'll throw a bone out there for the faithful.
