There is nothing you can tell me to convince me these edge highlights look good

I'd be tickled if they'd give us a toggle to turn off edge highlights. I'd probably notice them less if they didn't behave so goofy. I get their intent of simulating catching the light on shiny edges when you tilt your phone around. I don't get what they're going for when you hold the phone still afterwards and the edge highlights fade off then fade back on.

(I admit, I do like a lot of the glass translucency in general though)

I don't think that there will be a moment that I will like this UI. Performance wise is fine, some lags here and there but overall is good (13 Mini, 26.2 Beta 1) but man, that UI is just horrible.

The look just is bad, the effects, etc. I not sure that this UI will last 10+ years like the change with iOS 7 to iOS 18 because is just ugly.

I'm not sure if I will change this Mini for another iPhone in the future with this UI.

Why does it look so stupid? It’s the live captions from FaceTime, correct?

This is a conversation in Messages. The other user selected one of the built-in backgrounds - which rendered their name illegible. Plus the contrast between the buttons and the background is super high which is funny considering how eager they are to blend into the background in other apps.

The backgrounds are a terrible feature. I think they knew this, that's why it has a toggle to be turned off from day 1. A friend of a friend in a big group text put a NSFW background on. I saw it once and realized I needed to keep them turned off for everyone, forever.

Why are the animations so glacially slow and stuttery on a brand new 17PM?
I have both a 17PM and an M5 iPP. I believe ios 26 processes, Liquid Glass or some other feature, are too intensive for the devices. My assumption, at this point, is that won’t change in 26 but will be reduced in some way in ios 27. Having seen all the display issues on my previous ipad which had betas installed beginning with the 3rd ios 26.0 beta release, I was curious to see how the very latest devices would handle this. Obviously no better than any older device. I’m of the belief that whatever creates the Liquid Glass effect overloads all the devices, so I’m expecting to see a dramatic change in that feature in 27.

I think this GUI is absolutely fugly. But one of the really frustrating things in my mind is that they are screwing up apps that worked perfectly well before. Take FaceTime for instance. Before you could FaceTime directly from the contact sheet. That is no longer possible. You now have to open the FaceTime App and call from there.
and the new FaceTime App is what I would call user Unfriendly.
Why is it that Apple (and many other companies) have forgotten the old rule: Don't fix what isn't broken?

And... fix what IS broken, :)
