This is so funny cause this thread is true, I was out at a local austin bar and people kept on calling I was so hesitant to pull it out just because i knew people were going to 😱 (is that an iphone) So I kept it in my pocket till my coworker had to tell evryone I have an iphone so here I am showing drunk people how this AMAZING GADGET WORKS! now I call it THE PANTY DROPPER!
Hahaha... This thread is classic! My dad will soon be taking his iPhone out into public and I'm sure he will get a lot of heads to turn. It's pretty awesome if you think about it. iPhone users, as of now, are like celebrities. Sure it can get annoying, but enjoy the attention while it lasts. 🙂

For the questions of "how much was it", the best way to reply is that you don't get a discount like most other phones up front, but you get cheaper service over the life of the phone in exchange. I save $30 off my Blackberry plan, personally... after 12 months, the phone was only $250 factoring in those savings.
As for taking it out in public... I do so with pride. People have commented twice, and are interested to different levels. I know that I end up with the best product as more people buy it... because Apple is forcd to put the development $$ into it.
Maybe it's just me... I bought mine in the closest Apple store to Compton. (Which just might be one of the most gentrified places in Los Angeles...)

I have been using mine non-stop since Friday night. Everytime I get stuck in a checkout line or waiting for something Im dealing with emails and whatever else needs to be done. This way when I get home, ME TIME! But seriously no one other than co-workers have come up and asked about it. The few co-workers that ask have no clue about technological advances in anything so they don't need the full demo anyways....it goes right over their head.
I expect a few more questions as I will be out more over the next few days but I have yet to see anyone else in my surrounding areas with one. At first I thought just don't use the thing while out in public but why not! If I get calls, I answer them ... as long as no one comes up and starts trying to ask me ?'s while Im on a call, I don't mind talkin' bout it!

so, i was waiting outside the gentlemen restroom for my buddy and I saw this hot girls looking at my iPhone, ans they came up to me and asked me if they can see it and i said, "ok" then they were like drooling and asking me all these quiestions which lead up to them inviting me to go to their table and show the rest of the girls and ended up hanging out with them and added 4 girls to my contacts by the end of the night, I love it more now! its a ***** magnet

I was at the airport last night picking up a friend. It found the free wireless so I was browsing the web killing time. I overheard "look, an iPhone."
Today I've already given 4 demos to coworkers who knew I was going to get one. "Show me the Jesus phone!"

Everyone knew I was going to have one, and when I went out to the club on Saturday nite, all anyone would do is come up and ask me about it....and want to see it...it was quite annoying, but funny at the same time.
To me this is the #1 casual feature for me.
I am now not afraid of standing in long lines... I have an iphone so I can watch a movie, watch a show from my tivo, surf the web, check my email, ................
Please DMV! Send me a letter saying that I need to renew something and I must stand in one of your long lines!

This thread is hilarious. Ever since the iPhone hype has gotten out of control over the past few weeks, I've been wondering about what it would be like once people actually had them in public.
Sure enough, when I was with my friend who has one, he kept getting bothered by people asking about it. We were in line for popcorn at the movies, and everyone in line wanted to see it. One asked for a demo, another was asking if any sim card could go into it, another asked if it was worth the 500 bucks (my friend actually had the 8gb model, but wasn't going to say this), another asked how EDGE was... the questions just kept on coming.
This is another reason why I'm ok with waiting for Version Two. Hopefully by then, the iPhone won't be that big of a deal, and I can take it out of my pocket without fear of people jumping all over it... 😉

Haha. Yeah, the iPhone does help with waiting in lines. Wish I had one while I was waiting in line at the Apple Store to buy one. Hahaha!

I did the math of 60x24 on the Calculator and showed him. The resulting $1440 was far less than the $2400 he told me. Then I told him even with the price of the phone, it's still less than $2400.
It seems the early rumors of data plan costs really stuck to some people. So he came up with that AT&T will be charging me an extra $1000 and how I just don't know it yet. I laughed and ended the conversation.

I kinda know now how early testers felt about taking this thing out of their pocket during all those weeks (and months?) Despite all the hoopla, these things aren't really that popular yet (too new) with the general public, so when you pull it out to use it, there is a feeling of people "looking" at you and once they see it, you're outta luck - have fun sharing the functions with strangers, or be a schmuck and put it away and run.

There's plenty of Apple fans in the department, too. They all went nuts, I was was thrilled to let people play with it to their hearts' delight.
I also made it in the local media, so people I didn't tell that I was getting one were coming up to me asking to see it. This whole experience is truly bizarre, wonderful, fun, odd, and exciting.
