I kinda know now how early testers felt about taking this thing out of their pocket during all those weeks (and months?) Despite all the hoopla, these things aren't really that popular yet (too new) with the general public, so when you pull it out to use it, there is a feeling of people "looking" at you and once they see it, you're outta luck - have fun sharing the functions with strangers, or be a schmuck and put it away and run.
I have a little grocery store down the corner from me, and as I paid for my merchandise, there was an iPhone commercial on the owners little TV. I couldn't help it - I just slid it out of my shirt pocket, held it there for a second, and slid it back in - and he went out of his mind.😱
At work today (Monday) everyone expected me to have it, and the anticipation was huge. I'm in a large IT department at the 8th largest school district in the US. There's plenty of Apple fans in the department, too. They all went nuts, I was was thrilled to let people play with it to their hearts' delight.
I also made it in the local media, so people I didn't tell that I was getting one were coming up to me asking to see it. This whole experience is truly bizarre, wonderful, fun, odd, and exciting.
