I can remember when SSDs were new and I realized I missed the sound of a hard drive because I couldn't tell if the disk was working correctly. You would get used to the normal sound of a seeking drive and if the sound changed, you knew to go look for a problem. Of course I got used to it and now I love that my M1 MacBook Air is completely silent--there is literally nothing in the computer that makes ambient noise.🥰

The quietness ist astonishing! In 2018 I finally switched from my old mid-2010 MacBook Pro (which sounded like a jet engine) to a Mac mini whose fan I actually never really heard. But when under heavy load this thing got really loud and is hot to the touch. The M1 MBP fan tough never kicked on since Ii got the machine two weeks ago. Pretty nice! My girlfriend got herself a M1 MBA (coming from a 2011 MBP) and is very impressed (and happy), too!
