people should just stop worrying about Panther problems and install it.

most likely they're small isolated incidents.

every new OS will have some bugs. just do a search for "Jaguar bugs" and i bet you'll turn up a whole heap. ;)

but if everyone doesn't use a new OS, and they keep waiting for a 'stable' update.... that's almost as stupid as people putting off buying hardware because something new might be around the corner. ;) :p

Everyone isn't waiting, though. The Jaguar bugs were fixed after a while. There were quite a few and not only that, but incompatibilities were high. I expect that the Panther bugs will be fixed much more quickly.

Now that I am using Panther I definitely would not switch back. The improvements are worth the slight inconvience of a few bugs.

If my machine was a vital part of workflow I might have considered staying on 10.2.8 until 10.3.2 comes out (The first real update).

The thing that mostly annoys me is the cycle of OS X. Apple release a new version every year and then the rest of the year is spent updating it until it is practically perfect in every way and then 10.4 Wildcat will be released. The circle of life :)

I don't have a screenshot of Jaguar's brushed metal, but here is a shot of the Finder window using Panther's brushed metal for you to compare against.
Metal is unchanged.

Don't Wait

I was so in love with Jaguar, I had to work on a PC until last January when I bought my first mac in 4 years. (glad to be back)

I was sketical about upgrading, and I decided that I would wait until they released the first patch. The day they did I was at the Apple store buying it, I have had ZERO problems with my core software, PHOTOSHOP, ILLUSTRATOR, MX SUITE....actually the only problem I had with anything was Limewire....and I can live with out that.

Make the switch, expose, user switching, font book, search in seconds, advanced preview app, labels, new kick a** finder, everything has been great....

I figure I am saving 30 mins a day on things I was waiting for with Jaguar.

ALL GOOD

Don't let these people fool you. If you're happy with your OS, please by all means keep using it. I know people who still run Win95 or 3.1 exclusively. There's an OS9 user on the floor above me even and a 10.1 user on the floor below. Get what you think will work.

Sage advice. My mom's still hanging onto Jaguar but remember the updates to Jaguar will be far and few between in the future.

Thank you all so much

I can not believe the overwheming response and how many of you are actually in favor of upgrading. Surely makes me more confident in making my choice. Thanks again.
