Midwest America.
I am stunned.

I just got an email saying they received my trade-in kit, and the box was empty! OMG!!!

In a world where you feel you can at least trust *someone*, you can't trust anyone...

Now what? I'm just stunned...

You should have the package shipping receipt with the weight on it. That’s a start.

I do. Somehow it lost a half pound between drop off and the first scan once in the system. I think it was the local UPS terminal that I dropped it off to that stole it. What a crock...

And UPS says I have to file all claims online, but there is no choice for 'You jerks stole my iPhone!'. I'm on the phone with an 'agent', but who knows what will happen. I'm just... Wow...

Sometimes when you file a claim they miraculously “find” the device.

'Apple has a contract with UPS, and they will start any investigations, and it is out of our hands. Stay safe and thanks for using UPS.'

Okay...

I douple taped the box, over the shipping label. I had a defective iMac 'disappear' probably 10 years ago. Apple received the label, no box attached, so I double tape all labels because if that. Anyway... I just needed to vent.

Very sorry to hear that.

There have been other posts about similar activity. Alas, at lease Apple can 'block' the device from being used, if it was 'sold on' and such.

That's what makes the whole thing senseless. I remember someone going off after an Apple Store was broken into. I laughed. They looked shocked, and offended. I pointed out that Apple has all of the serial numbers and will likely either 1) Block them from ever being registered or activated, or b) track where they pop up, and arrange a 'visit' from authorities and some basic bright light questioning.

I know I delivered the box with my iPhone inside, safely I thought. I'm just pissed that I didn't just go to the store. Two hours away. Damn, you can't trust anyone...

Contact your carrier and let them know. They can blacklist the phone, making it unusable.

Me and my fiancé traded in our iPhone 11 Pro Max’s and our Series 4 Apple Watches to Verizon for a $2000 credit on two 13 Pro Max’s and two stainless series 7 Apple watches

Anyhow the trade-in kits to ship the phones back were in these flimsy shipping boxes and I simply didn’t trust trust them…. I simply got 4 post office flat rate boxes with some heavy duty shipping tape and shipped them that way with the provided UPS ground labels… never an issue

And I thought of using a different box, but I'd imagine that any UPS crook would see the address and strip the booty out of the box, and send it out to whomever. The urge has to be great to pilfer the stuff flying through the place. Especially one with a blinking red light on it going in for trade-in. I almost wrote 'DEFECTIVE RETURN' on the box, but didn't want to freak out whoever might see it there at the destination.

It weighed in at the beginning of its trip, check in at 0.72 pounds, and the first scan showed it weighed 0.60 pounds. How much does an iPhone weigh?

EDIT: 226g, or about a half pound. Hmm... So it lost 54.4g?

EDIT: But using a UPS bag would leave tear marks in the bag, and whoever did it would likely have to reprint the label, or use tape to fix it, leaving prints all over the thing. Yeah, I'm still pissed...:oops:
