I still use the control panel quite heavily.

Since the Anniversary Update, I've found reason to use it less and less.

Honestly, I wouldn't be too sad to see it go. It's a convoluted mess of categories nested within subcategories nested within subcategories, nested within subcategories. The new settings menu, while still a little sprawling, is much better organized in comparison.

I loved my surface book. I have owned several MacBooks and laptops from all major brands. The surface book was the best of best, even more so once a few bugs were worked out. I built a desktop recently and it's so, so fast, powerful, and stable. So I sold the surface book, with the intention of getting a less powerful laptop for work. Got a dell xps 13, which is superior to the MacBook Air to in all area but battery life. It's wonderful device....but then I somehow scored a high end, 4K, touch screen, etc quadcore skylake dell xps 15 for $49 less than the xps 13. So much for getting a less powerful device, but I couldn't pass it up. Who doesn't want to play the witcher 3 on those late nights at work?

Nonetheless the surface book is as close to perfection as a laptop gets. The next gen will impressive, but I doubt it will make 1st gen owners feel outdated.

Whoever here said apple was correct in not updating their MacBook....are you joking? The 15inch MacBook Pro is a 2-3k laptop. I could build two uber powerful desktops or buy a high end surface book and a surface pro 4 for that kind of money. Yet, the 15 pro are running haswell and an outdated Radeon dgpu. It's a rip off, to be honest.

SurfaceBook is on Skylake, so the next iteration will be kaby lake later in 2017. MS was quick to roll out a skylake equipped laptop, where as apple has seemingly dragged their feet.

Interesting. I was under the impression MS might release an SB2 around the time the new MacBooks came out. I guess I'll just wait until the MacBook is announced to make sure I'm not missing out on anything stellar. I could care less about the touchscreen and tablet mode, BUT even if I never use touch or tablet mode it still seems like a damn fine machine. I'm to the point where there really isn't any compelling reason for me to be on Mac anymore.

It's amazing how quickly you get used to the touch screen and how useful it is.

I really don't expect Apple to embrace touchscreens for their laptops. I think they're afraid it would eat into their already decreasing iPad sales.
I dont know why? Ill never buy another laptop without a touchscreen. I have the first version Lenovo Yoga 11S.

Agreed, in looking at a mobile product, touch screen was high on my must have list. Before I bought the SB, I compared the SurfaceBook in the MS store with that of the MBPs (and MacBook) and for the money I was paying, it felt like I was getting more bang for my buck

Not to say MS has it all, I was a bit annoyed by the MS sales rep. She was pushing that I pay retail price, and then get the promo that they were offering (accidental coverage/leather case/MS Office) for 50 bucks. She said, I could pay full price for the SB and get the promo deal, or pay the edu pricing but no promo deal.

After I left and compared the Macs, I saw online that I could buy the SurfaceBook at the EDU pricing, and that promo (for 50 bucks). It left a bad taste in my mouth to be sure.

Btw, I work for a teaching hospital, and have a edu email address, so they verified that qualified :)

I found an i5 256 gig version on Craigslist, I offered 700 but he was holding steady at 900. I'm hoping he caves, it has been on there awhile and was at 1100

Right tool for the job, not everyone obsesses over specs, others don't want Windows, few want a machine that runs both. Why do people assume what is important to them controls the market?

Post a few pictures of it if you don't mind. I'm still using my SP3 occasionally.

Here you go:

@soulreaver99

It looks really nice. I may be tempted picking up a Rev 2 version. Can I ask what is the thin blue line on the rear hinges is ? I've highlighted it here - it's above the red line

It's a price for what you get thing. Specs varying based on the user's needs.

i think the design is wierd. it has empty space between the keyboard and the screeen when closed.. im pretty sure that i would find every pencils, coins, paper clips!, etc between the screen and the keyboard with nice scrathes on the screen.

That doesnt make sense to me.

That's only if you're dirty. I have none of those issues

To be honest, it is a bit different but I'm not bothered by it.

Yeah...why on Earth would you carry your expensive tech, if you are worried about scratches or other ancillary damage, in a bag compartment with a bunch of loose garbage?

I'm not a fan of the gap due to its aesthetics but I'm not sure how anyone who takes even halfway decent care of their tech should be concerned about debris in that space.

Never had a problem with it in the 6-7 months I owned the book.

I've read rumors that MS is going for a design that'll allow the machine to close fully, a'la a traditional clamshell design. Though it makes me wonder what they'll do, because that gap, weird though it may be, is there for a good reason.
